Wellesbourne Cricket Club CHL Saturday 2nd XI v Adlestrop on Sat 17 Aug 2019 at 1.30pm
Wellesbourne Cricket Club Won by 4 wickets

Match report Wellesbourne 2nd XI returned to winning form with a four wicket win over promotion chasing Adlestrop. Having elected to bat first, Adlestrop’s opening partnership was soon broken by Ed Smith (9.1-2-22-3) when he tempted skipper Sam Keen to edge an out-swinger to keeper Matty Boyle. With Chris Evans initially ineffective from the far end, despite having the wind behind him, Adlestrop were soon in all kinds of trouble, thanks to a blistering spell from Rick Alford, whose figures of 7-4-6-3 speak for themselves. He tore through nos 3, 4, and 5, leaving the visitors floundering on 37-5. Smith squared up Barnes, lbw for 20, and veteran Phil Rothwell’s incredibly tight bowling (5-4-1-1) included the scalp of Elliott for 21, the second of four catches taken by Boyle. Evans’ second spell was rewarded when he took three tail end wickets in quick succession. Smith then cleaned up Vale, to leave the visitors, six of whom only made three runs between them, well under par on 83 all out.
Bourne’s reply was a contrast of Boyle’s steady innings, carrying his bat from first to last ball, and the mini collapse of the more experienced batsmen, Tommy Wheeler (3), Jon Smith (4) and Rick Alford (0) in the middle order. Keen’s 4-27 did most of the damage, but Craig Cook, Jack Myatt and Boyle all contributed in the twenties, to bring Wellesbourne home, with 17 overs still in hand.
