Shipston on Stour v Wellesbourne Cricket Club CHL Saturday 1st XI on Sat 24 Aug 2019 at 1.30pm
Wellesbourne Cricket Club Lost by 6 runs

Match report Wellesbourne suffered an agonising six-run defeat in a close finish at local rivals Shipston and with one match to go will now finish in third place in the league and considering the availability this season is a more than satisfactory position. Shipston won the toss and chose to bat but soon found themselves 15 for two as Noah Rose took the wickets of Julian Morris caught by Travis Butcher and clean bowling Jack Murphy. Matt Corby and Simon Willey then took the total to 49 before Tom Stephenson had Willey (16) caught by Dave Barnett and when Corby was also dismissed for 28 by John Edden to another catch by Barnett the hosts were 53 for four. Gary Betteridge (13) was next to go when Sean Hopwood caught him off Stephenson before Marcus Ireland and Paul Cross stemmed the flow of wickets with a good stand of 42 before Cross (18) fell to a catch by Jamie Maynard off Stephenson (10-2-3-27). Shipston then began to take control of the game as skipper Tom Cox joined Ireland but when Cox survived a confident appeal for a stumping, these two took the score to 189 before Rose (7-0-4-45) took two more wickets having Cox caught by Andy Rogers before Ireland’s fine innings of 59 was ended by a catch from Barnett. Maynard then bowled Mick Pyne and Shipston finished on 193 for nine in their 45 overs. With only 10 players available Bourne tried a new opening partnership of Maynard and Hopwood and these two did a fine job in putting on 93 runs before Maynard, after completing his 50, was bowled by Dave Pyne. Twenty runs later Murphy had Butcher lbw for 13 before Hopwood and Tommy Wheeler took the score to 160 before Wheeler was stumped by Cox off Morris for 25. With overs running out Bourne seemed to be in the driving seat but Hopwood, after gaining his maiden half century, was bowled by Morris (5-0-2-20) for 65 and Edden was run out and Shipston completed a fine victory by the small margin of six runs.
