Exhall & Wixford v Wellesbourne Cricket Club CHL Saturday 1st XI on Sat 17 Aug 2019 at 1.30pm
Wellesbourne Cricket Club Lost

Match report Wellesbourne’s three-year grip on the Premier Division was finally ended when Exhall & Wixford completed an excellent 66-run win and in turn are now the new champions-elect finding themselves 42 points clear with only two games left. Bourne won the toss and asked Exhall to bat first and openers Sam Smith and skipper Barry Weston made a confident start with an untroubled opening partnership of 55 before Smith (23) fell to a catch by Travis Butcher at slip off Noah Rose. Weston then followed to a catch at deep cover by Sean Hopwood off Reece Myatt for 28 with the total on 71 before Bourne grabbed two more wickets having Jessica Watson held at cover by Rose off Myatt (9-0-2-41) and Rob Perry lbw to Hopwood and the visitors felt they were well back in the game. However, Will Green batted superbly and with the assistance of Scott Carmichael these two pushed the score to 149 before Carmichael was run out for 22. Green was next to go in the 37th over for a fine 66 with the score on 172 when Darren Mole took a superb catch off John Edden before Tom Simpson (41 not out) and Richard Layton (20 not out) batted well and produced a quickfire 60-run partnership off the last eight overs to leave Exhall on a healthy 232 for six. Bourne knew it was a tough ask and were soon in trouble on 28 for two as Tom Burgess trapped Mole lbw and Myles Isted (11) was bowled by Layton (10–3-1-16). These two bowlers kept it very tight and third-wicket pair Jamie Maynard and Dave Barnett had to battle hard to keep Bourne in the hunt putting on a 58-run stand before Weston had Barnett lbw for 17 and 13 runs later, after bringing up his 50 with a six, Maynard fell next ball to Weston (10-0-3-42), who then took his third wicket as Butcher was caught behind by Steve Armstrong. Although Edden showed some excellent resistance in reaching 56 not out no one could stay with him and build a partnership and wickets began to tumble. Leon Gates (10-2-2-34) grabbed two, bowling Matt Woods and having Hopwood caught by Armstrong before Perry (3-0-2-16) grabbed the scalps of Rose, stumped by Armstrong and Tom Stephenson caught by Armstrong and the visitors ended on 162 for nine.
