Alcester & Ragley v Wellesbourne Cricket Club CHL Saturday 1st XI on Sat 29 Jun 2019 at 1.30pm
Wellesbourne Cricket Club Won by 5 wickets

Match report Reaching the halfway stage of the season Wellesbourne find themselves 10 points behind leaders Exhall & Wixford after a five-wicket victory at Ragley Hall where bottom of the table Alcester & Ragley put up a good performance belying their lowly position in the table but both sides will look at improving their bowling and fielding perfomances as a combined total of 61 wides and no balls was a poor show. On a beautiful day the hosts won the toss and batted first but Bourne soon made a breakthrough on 11 when Gary Strain fell to a catch by Jamie Maynard off Noah Rose. However, Bourne were left to rue a straightforward catch offered next ball by incoming batsman Darren Kok as he played an excellent innings in holding the Alcester innings together. With the total on 29 though Darren Mole (10-4-2-28) struck two blows for the visitors having Tim Foster caught by Travis Butcher and skipper Darren Turner lbw. This brought Liam Clarke to the crease and with Kok these two put on a 117-run partnership before Clarke was caught and bowled by Tom Stephenson for 30. Whether it was the hot conditions affecting them Bourne just could not get it right in the field and Paul Dipple (21) then helped put on 49 runs with Kok before he was caught by Sean Hopwood off Rose (6-0-2-36) before five runs later Jake Woolley was run out. Kok pressed on with some fine hitting until on 225 John Edden (10-0-1-46) had Paul Cooke (10) lbw and finally Kok himself played a tired shot and was bowled by Hopwood for an excellent 118 with the score on 237. Hopwood (9-0-2-46) then had Jethro Powell caught by Butcher before Stephenson (8.4-0-2-73) had David Magnall caught by Hopwood and the hosts were 240 all out in the 44th over. Faced with a decent target Bourne’s openers Myles Isted and Mole set about the task in fine style putting on 70 before Steve Capron had Mole adjudged lbw for 32. Powell then removed Maynard lbw to a contentious decision before Capron (10-1-2-52) bowled Isted (30) and the visitors were 91 for three and the game was evenly poised. Bourne needed to stabilise the innings and skipper Dave Barnett and Edden provided the impetus required and both played very well in compiling a match-winning partnership of 130 before, with victory in sight, Edden unfortunately was caught in the deep by Foster off Powell for a fine 62. Travis Butcher then hit a quick 14 before Powell (10-2-3-52) had him caught by Capron before Barnett (55 not out) hit the winning boundary and Bourne were grateful for the win which keeps them in the mix for the second half of the season.
