Exhall & Wixford v Wellesbourne Cricket Club CHL Saturday 1st XI on Sat 25 Aug 2018 at 1.30pm
Wellesbourne Cricket Club Won by 6 wickets

Match report Wellesbourne are now only one win away from their third Premier Division title on the trot following a six-wicket success over Exhall & Wixford in a low-scoring game when faced with a revised target of 65 they managed to get over the line. Winning the toss, Bourne skipper Dave Barnett had no hesitation in putting the hosts into bat and was soon rewarded when Chris Evans snapped up Sam Smith to a catch by Travis Butcher in the fifth over with the score on 15. Worse was to follow for Exhall when in his next over Evans had B J Weston caught by Jamie Maynard and then Darren Mole had Scott Carmichael caught by Myles Isted. This brought Will Green and Rob Perry to the crease and these two began to put together a partnership before on 40 Mole bowled Green for 20. Perry continued with Simon Hollands but scoring was proving extremely difficult and the hosts had reached only 50 in 25 overs. Bourne’s bowlers were well on top with Ross Milton conceding only one run in his five overs but it was Tom Stephenson who bowled Hollands with the total on 57 before Sean Hopwood had Perry caught by Milton. Stephenson then grabbed three more wickets having Steve Armstrong caught by John Edden, Tom Burgess caught by Barnett and Jim Goldstraw lbw. Hopwood then had Tom Thompson caught by Stephenson and Exhall’s misery was complete as they were all out for 76. Stephenson 4-18. Hopwood 2-15, Evans 2-18 and Mole 2-23. Bourne also had trouble with the pitch when they started their innings and Rob Perry removed both Mole and Milton (15) to catches by Hollands and they were 19 for two. Isted and Maynard saw them to tea at 33 off 10 overs but with seven overs lost due to rain Bourne’s target was reduced to 65 in 48 overs. On 47 though Maynard went to a catch by Weston off Goldstraw and Isted (14) was bowled by Perry leaving Edden (11 not out) and Tommy Wheeler to see Bourne to this vital win. Perry with 3-41 and Goldstraw 1-23. The title will be decided this week when Bourne face a tough home game against third placed Overbury while Lapworth, who are eight points behind, face relegation-threatened Alcester & Ragley.
