Lapworth v Wellesbourne Cricket Club CHL Saturday 1st XI on Sat 02 Jun 2018 at 1.30pm
Wellesbourne Cricket Club Won

Match report On a fantastic day for cricket, another fine bowling performance from Wellesbourne paved the way for a good six-wicket success over unbeaten leaders Lapworth, and in turn completed their fourth win on the trot and the result has now propelled Bourne to the top of the table. A wicket from the first ball of the game from Chris Evans having David Pugh caught behind by Dave Barnett set the visitors on their way and with the pitch keeping low and a slow outfield run scoring was always going to be difficult. After adding 34 for the second wicket James Tiffin was caught by John Edden off Evans who immediately bowled Ben Wright before Darren Mole removed opener Gohar Rehman for 31 to a catch by Ross Milton and the hosts were struggling on 56 for four. Things never improved, apart from a couple of lusty blows from Sean Cross, and the fifth wicket went when Lee Morris fell to a catch by Travis Butcher off the in-form Sean Hopwood. Hopwood then removed Conway Mace (10) caught by Milton before Milton himself picked up the wicket of Sam Stafford to a catch by Jamie Maynard before the final three wickets fell on 103. Mandar Kahshikar was run out, Mark Hadden was caught by Maynard off Milton and finally Hopwood removed Cross (25) to a stumping from Barnett. Hopwood finishing with 3-18, Evans 3-26, Milton 2-5 (off seven overs), Mole 1-32. Bourne knew that batting was never going to be easy and so it proved as they lost two quick wickets with Myles Isted going lbw to Cross and Milton being bowled by Stafford and at 21 for two the visitors were stuttering. The situation called for calm and Mole and Maynard provided just that. With some careful batting, slowly but surely these two staged the recovery and with the highest partnership of the game turned the match fully in the champion's favour. However, with the total on 80, Mole was caught for 40 by Stafford off Tiffin trying for a big hit and on the same score John Edden was then trapped in front by Morris. Lapworth sensed they could gain something out of the game but Maynard (35 not out) with the assistance of Barnett suffered no more problems and saw Bourne home to a deserved success.
