Catherine de Barnes v Wellesbourne Cricket Club CHL Saturday 1st XI on Sat 03 Jun 2017 at 1.30pm
Wellesbourne Cricket Club Won

Match report Champions Wellesbourne’s topsy-turvy start to the season continued when they gained their third win in five games and they were indebted to a superb 120 from opener Gary Maynard and a good bowling performance as they completed a fine 112-run win at Catherine-de-Barnes. Batting first, Bourne made a decent start, until on 23, they lost young Myles Isted to a fine diving catch by L Green off C Mace, which brought John Edden to the crease to join Gary Maynard. These two were quick to punish any loose deliveries and the score rattled along to 75 before Edden (16) top edged and G Kilroy caught him off Mace. This dismissal did not slow down the Bourne run rate though as skipper Dave Barnett joined Maynard and these two continued to keep the scoreboard ticking along with Maynard in particular scoring at every opportunity. The score advanced to 160 when two wickets fell quickly, first Barnett was adjudged lbw off A Davies for 28 and then Jamie Maynard went to a catch behind by S Finnegan off Kilroy. With the total on 194, Gary Maynard’s innings of 120 off 95 balls ended when he was caught at deep extra cover by L Basnett off Kilroy and this gave Catney the breakthrough they needed and wickets began to tumble as Travis Butcher was well caught by Green off Basnett for 12, Jonny Spence was caught and bowled by Basnett, Arron Snipe hit a quick 19 before Kilroy bowled him, Ben Cherry was bowled by Basnett and Sean Hopwood was caught off Kilroy leaving Tom Stephenson 11 not out and Bourne all out for 245 at the end of the 43rd over. Kilroy 4-44, Basnett 3-14, Mace 2-42 and Davies 1-61. In reply, Catney’s openers J Shyrd and L Hanson made a solid start taking the score to 38 before Gary Maynard had Shryd (15) caught by Butcher. Maynard’s day got even better when he then bowled Kilroy and had Green well-caught behind by Barnett and the home side were 54 for three. Hanson though found an ally in Mace, who was quick to punish any bad balls, and they took the score to 115 before Isted held a good catch at mid-on off Snipe to dismiss Hanson for 42. Young left-arm spinner Hopwood then stepped in to have O Basnett caught by Cherry at deep long on, before the wicket of Mace (42) ended Catney’s hopes when Jamie Maynard caught him at deep long on off Snipe and the score was 124 for six. The tail was soon wiped away with Snipe having Finnegan well caught at slip by Spence, Hopwood having L Basnett caught by Edden, Snipe picking up his fourth wicket as Davies was caught by Edden and finally Hopwood wrapping up the innings having D Morris caught by Stephenson and Catney were all out for 133 in the 33rd over. Snipe 4-51, Hopwood 3-24 and Maynard 3-28 doing the damage and a welcome win for Bourne.
