Wellesbourne Cricket Club CHL Saturday 1st XI v Shipston on Stour on Sat 27 May 2017 at 1.30pm
Wellesbourne Cricket Club Lost

Match report A fine match-winning innings of 68 not out from the experienced Gary Betteridge and some poor batting from Wellesbourne saw Shipston come away with a fine 62-run win at Loxley Road. After winning the toss Shipston took first strike but suffered a blow in the first over when Matt Corby was caught behind by Dave Barnett off Gary Maynard and when Maynard bowled Marcus Ireland the visitors found themselves 24 for two. However, opener Harry Dube was looking in decent form and with Jack Murphy took the score to 56 before Ben Cherry had Murphy caught by Barnett. Gary Maynard then bowled Dube for 37 and when Arron Snipe struck two quick blows having Nick Hibberd well-caught at slip by Jamie Maynard and Paul Cross lbw, Shipston had slumped to 95 for six in the 20th over and Bourne were looking to wrap up the innings. However, coming in fourth-wicket down, Betteridge had other ideas and with skipper Tom Cox began to rebuild the innings and these two completed a 56-run partnership until Cox (23) was caught by Neil Abbott off Sean Hopwood. Although Richard Bryan was bowled by Snipe, Betteridge continued to score at will and with another experienced campaigner Dave Murphy (18 not out) as his partner these two comfortably took the visitors to 218 for eight in their 45 overs. Snipe finished with 3-48, Maynard 3-50, Cherry 1-39 and Hopwood 1-40. During the tea interval, the arrival of ex-England coach David Saker, a former Shipston player, the great Darren Lehmann, the Australian coach, and some of the Australian Champions Trophy squad enlightened the proceedings. When play re-started, Bourne needed to make a good start in reply but with the score on 17 Corby trapped Tommy Wheeler lbw and then had Gary Maynard (21) snapped up at slip by Ireland and Bourne were 40 for two. This brought together 15-year-old Myles Isted, making his first team debut, and skipper Barnett, and these two were both looking in good form, but on 68, Corby grabbed his third wicket when Barnett (12) fell to another slip catch by Ireland. Jamie Maynard was next to go caught by Jack Murphy off Dave Murphy and then Isted (27), was caught by Cox off Jack Murphy and Bourne were 87 for five. Jack Murphy then picked up two quick wickets bowling Darren Mole and having Travis Butcher caught by Cox and when Dave Murphy also took two more wickets, having Snipe caught behind by Betteridge and Abbott caught by Hibberd, the home side were 115 for nine. Bourne then showed a bit of resistance with a last-wicket stand of 41 between Cherry and Hopwood. Cherry hit a couple of sixes and Hopwood was looking solid before Cherry was run out and the innings closed on 156 all out. Corby 3-26, Jack Murphy 3-29 and Dave Murphy 3-45 doing the damage.
