Exhall & Wixford v Wellesbourne Cricket Club CHL Saturday 1st XI on Sat 20 May 2017 at 1.30pm
Wellesbourne Cricket Club Won

Match report With the wet weather over the previous few days and rain looking imminent, a 25-over contest was agreed between the umpires and the two captains and it was Wellesbourne who benefited coming away with a fine seven-wicket success due mainly to a superb show in the field with some fine catches and good bowling with Darren Mole and Arron Snipe deserving particular mention. Bourne asked the hosts to bat first and grabbed a wicket in the first over when Sam Smith was well caught by Jonny Spence off Gary Maynard and in the fifth over Julian Morris (14) was caught by Jamie Maynard at deep long on off brother Gary and Exhall were 25 for two. The third wicket was the result of a superb piece of fielding by Mole who ran out the dangerous Balasubrahahanian and Bourne kept up the pressure as no batsman look settled. After hitting two sixes, Dave Mullett was bowled by Snipe for 19 and then Mole removed Tom Simpson (13) to a fine catch at deep square leg by John Edden and then Snipe bowled skipper Steve Kerby for 25 when he looked likely to play a big innings and Exhall were 96 for six. Bourne then wrapped up the Exhall tail as Snipe trapped Rob Perry lbw, Mole clean bowled B J Weston and had Richard Layton caught by Spence and young spinner Sean Hopwood picked up the final wicket as Tom Burgess holed out to Tommy Wheeler and Exhall were all out in the 25th over for 104. Mole 3-20, Snipe 3-31, Gary Maynard 2-18 and Hopwood 1-5 doing the damage. In reply Bourne openers Gary Maynard and Wheeler made a quick start and the total was soon on to 43 before Exhall struck two quick blows as Wheeler was caught and bowled by Perry and Maynard fell to a catch by Simpson at deep square leg off Balasubrahahanian for 30. Skipper Dave Barnett and Jamie Maynard began to consolidate before Maynard (13) went for one hit too many and Smith caught him off Perry and Bourne were 64 for three. However, Travis Butcher joined his skipper at the crease and these two batted sensibly putting the bad balls away and victory was obtained in the 21st over with Barnett 26 not out and Butcher 14 not out to give Bourne a very satisfactory win. Perry 2-18 and Balasubrahahanian 1-30 taking the wickets.
