Alcester & Ragley v Wellesbourne Cricket Club CHL Saturday 1st XI on Sat 13 Aug 2016 at 1.30pm
Wellesbourne Cricket Club Won

Match report Bourne produced another good all-round display to record a resounding 166-run win over Alcester & Ragley and have now increased their lead at the top over Earlswood to 41 points with three games to play. Bouyed by last week’s good bowling performance against Earlswood, Alcester would have fancied their chances but after winning the toss Bourne’s openers Gary Maynard and Dave Barnett batted very well and were soon finding the boundary as they took the sting out of the attack and began to build a good partnership. Having reached 70 runs mainly untroubled the stand was broken when Maynard was adjudged lbw to Tim Jackson for 41. Jonny Spence then joined Barnett and these two continued the good work taking the score on to 138 before Spence (32) was lbw to Ben Shuttleworth bringing Jamie Maynard to the crease and the third good stand ensued as Barnett continued his fine innings and Maynard began to up the run rate with a couple of sixes and soon Bourne had passed the 200 mark. However on 223, Maynard was caught on the boundary by Max Biltcliffe off Tom Wright for 39 (an innings where he passed 3,000 runs for Bourne) and soon after Harry Jackman was run out. Barnett’s fine innings then ended when he was stumped by Dave Swinburn off Wright for an excellent 84 and Bourne were 235 for five. Tom Shearsby and Adam Kerrigan kept the scoreboard ticking over with Kerrigan smiting three huge sixes before he was also run out for 28 and shortly after the innings closed on 273 for six. Wright with 2-33. As in last week’s match Bourne soon made early inroads into their opponent’s batting and grabbed three wickets in the first three overs. Gary Maynard began the charge bowling Ben Lee with his sixth ball and fellow opening bowler Shearsby then had Dave Pilkington caught by Kerrigan in his first over. Maynard then removed Shuttleworth caught behind by Barnett and the home side were rocking on eight for three. Although they battled hard Alcester could not really get going as Bourne kept the pressure on and Biltcliffe was next to go when Gary Maynard caught him at deep mid wicket off Jackman with the score on 36. Jackson went next for 21 as Kerrigan snapped him up at slip off Tom Stephenson who then quickly removed Richard Layton to a catch by Jackman. On 55 for six it looked all over but a stubborn 48-run stand by Dave Swinburn and Wright gave Alcester a chance of picking up some useful bonus points in the quest to remain in the division, before Swinburn (40) went to a catch by Jamie Maynard at slip off Kerrigan and the end was in sight as Bourne soon wrapped up the innings. Jackman removed Wright (11) caught by Travis Butcher at deep long on, Kerrigan had Max Alderman caught by Phil Rothwell and Ollie Swinburn fell lbw to Jackman. Jackman finished with 3-23, Kerrigan 2-6, Maynard 2-7, Stephenson 2-54 and Shearsby 1-12.
