Leamington 3rds v Wellesbourne Cricket Club CHL Saturday 1st XI on Sat 16 Jul 2016 at 1.30pm
Wellesbourne Cricket Club Lost

Match report Bourne’s unbeaten run came to a disappointing end when they slumped to a 52-run defeat at Leamington. Always a difficult side to play against Leamington were asked to bat first and experienced openers Wayne Killian and James Cowan did a superb job on a difficult pitch against some good bowling. Both players were watchful but also played some attacking shots and they built an opening stand of 139 in 30 overs before Cowan was eventually caught on the boundary by Harry Jackman off Gary Maynard for a fine 56. Killian followed on 151 when his excellent innings of 86 ended when he was bowled by Adam Kerrigan. Bourne had done well to keep the runs in check and Tom Stephenson then had K Joseph caught by Gary Maynard on the boundary and trapped David Lord lbw before Kerrigan followed up having J Williams caught by Jamie Maynard and the home side were 176 for five and Bourne were reasonably happy at this stage. However, although they lost two more wickets as Tom Shearsby removed R Hanson clean bowled and W Dixon caught by Gary Maynard, M Dougar produced a whirlwind innings of 37 not out including 22 from one over with two enormous sixes and this propelled Leamington to a very decent total of 231 for seven off their 45 overs. Kerrigan 2-22, Stephenson 2-44, shearsby 2-65 and Maynard 1-41 taking the wickets. In reply Bourne got off to a quick start but on 13 in the second over James Whitfield tempted Gary Maynard once too often and had him caught by Dougar and then on 33 Jonny Spence was bowled by Dougar for 17. It was then that the Bourne innings completed disintegrated as Dougar produced an amazing spell taking the next five wickets in quick succession as no batsman seemed capable of staying at the crease. First, Jamie Maynard was trapped lbw, then Dougar bowled Kerrigan and Jackman and then Travis Butcher was also leg before. Dougar then claimed his sixth wicket having Craig Cook caught by keeper Matt Dale and the early leaders of the premier division found themselves in all sorts of trouble on 47 for seven. Skipper Dave Barnett had been watching the carnage from the other end and eventually he found an ally in Shearsby and slowly but surely these two began to build a partnership that began to rescue what looked like a lost cause. Both players played extremely well but after completing a well-deserved 51 Barnett fell to an outstanding catch by Lord off Joseph and Bourne were 126 for eight. Shearsby continued the fight picking up the odd boundary and with help from Stephenson took the score to 163 before Lee Credgington came on and bowled Stephenson. Shearsby moved to a superb 71 not out but lost Neil Abbott to a catch by Dale off Lord and Bourne were 179 all out in the 40th over. Dougar finished with the excellent figures of 6-24.
