Long Itchington v Wellesbourne Cricket Club CHL Saturday 1st XI on Sat 28 May 2016 at 1.30pm
Wellesbourne Cricket Club Won

Match report Wellesbourne maintained their fine start to the season gaining their fourth successive win with a four-wicket success at Long Itchington, when chasing 202 to win another excellent 139-run opening partnership between Gary Maynard and Tommy Wheeler gave them the platform before another mini collapse created a nail biting finish. With Dave Barnett again winning the toss and inserting the opposition, Bourne made an early breakthrough when Tom Shearsby bowled Roger Eadon with the score on nine. However, fellow opener Alex Jack and Tom Grimes took the total to 51 before Harry Jackman bowled Grimes for 19. Jack continued to bat solidly and with help from James Clarke they had 100 on the board at the drinks interval. Shortly after though Jack perished when Jackman trapped him lbw for 52 with the score on 110 and Bourne began to curtail the run-scoring with some tight bowling conceding only 40 in the next 14 overs. Clarke continued to bat well with the help of Tom Perks but after posting a 58-run stand Perks went caught by Shearsby off Tom Stephenson for 36 and then B Mishra was stumped by Barnett off Adam Kerrigan. Itchington then passed the 200 before off the final ball of the 45th over Clarke was bowled for 46 by Jamie Maynard and the innings closed on 201 for six. Jackman 2-25, Maynard 1-7, Shearsby 1-23, Stephenson 1-38 and Kerrigan 1-42. Bourne needed a good start in reply and openers Gary Maynard and Tommy Wheeler were immediately into their stride with both players soon peppering the boundary as the score raced along at a brisk rate and after nine overs they were on 54. Itchington’s bowlers were struggling as Bourne continued their onslaught reaching 114 off 15 overs as victory seemed a formality but on 139 Maynard was caught by Steve Chapman off Jack for an excellent 77 and immediately after Spence was lbw to Chapman. Wheeler was then caught off Chapman for a fine 53 and Bourne were beginning to wobble. Barnett and Kerrigan began to steady things until another collapse saw Kerrigan lbw to Jack, Jamie Maynard bowled by Chapman and Barnett (21) caught off Zak Aulach and Bourne found themselves 189 for six before they showed the strength in the depth of their batting as Jackman (17 not out) and John Edden took them over the line. Chapman 3-34 and Jack 2-43 the pick of the home attack.
