Shipston on Stour v Wellesbourne Cricket Club CHL Saturday 1st XI on Sat 14 May 2016 at 1.30pm
Wellesbourne Cricket Club Won

Match report Bourne gained a superb six-wicket win over local rivals Shipston thanks in no small part to an excellent 137-run opening partnership from Gary Maynard and Tommy Wheeler as Bourne chased down a total of 200. Shipston won the toss and chose to bat and were fortunate when Matt Corby was missed in the slips off the fourth ball of the game. Gradually though Corby and fellow opener Marcus Ireland began to build a decent start as they faced a good opening spell from Gary Maynard and Tom Shearsby. After posting a 50-run partnership, Ireland was first to go when John Edden bowled him for 24 with the score on 56. Harry Dube then joined Corby and these two began to play very well and with Dube looking very secure they took the score to 108 before Corby on 51 was well caught and bowled at the second attempt by Tom Stephenson. Dube and Jack Murphy kept up the good work until on 147 Dube was bowled by Jamie Maynard for 43. The home side then had their eyes on maximum batting points and Nick Hibberd and Murphy began to open up until Gary Maynard returned to have Hibberd (18) caught on the boundary by Wheeler and then bowled Murphy for 34 and Shipston were 185 for five. Two wickets then fell on 188 as Shearsby had Richard Bryan well stumped by Dave Barnett and clean bowled Tom Cox. However, Gary Betteridge showed his intention with a six off his first ball and Shipston reached the 200 until Ben Cox was bowled by Gary Maynard off the final ball of the 45th over. Maynard finished with 3-37, Shearsby 2-34, Jamie Maynard 1-24, Edden 1-25 and Stephenson 1-53. Chasing a decent total it was vital Bourne made a good start and they did as Gary Maynard and Wheeler started superbly with Maynard in particular picking up boundaries at will and they raced to 54 off 10 overs. Shipston tried to peg them back with several bowling changes but the openers continued their onslaught and it was a surprise when on 137 Maynard was bowled by Corby for an excellent 84. Suddenly, Shipston began to believe they had a chance as Corby then picked up three more wickets with Jonny Spence going lbw, Wheeler ending his innings the same way on 37 and Adam Kerrigan being caught behind by Tom Cox and Bourne were showing some nerves on 164 for four. However, skipper Barnett was joined by Jamie Maynard and these two stayed calm and saw off Corby, who finished a fine spell with 4-11 off his 10 overs, and took Bourne home to victory, Barnett finishing on 37 and Maynard on 13.
