Wellesbourne Cricket Club CHL Saturday 1st XI v Exhall & Wixford on Sat 01 Aug 2015 at 1.30pm
Wellesbourne Cricket Club Lost

Match report Exhall & Wixford gained a very important victory in their quest to winning the Premier Division title with a six-wicket victory at Loxley Close leaving them 47 points clear at the top of the table with three games remaining and ending Bourne’s hopes for another season. After winning the toss Bourne took first strike but were soon in trouble when opener Gary Maynard was caught at cover off the fourth ball of B J Weston‘s opening over, leaving them two for one. Fellow opener Tommy Wheeler and Nick Gabbett then began to rectify the situation with some good batting and after 15 overs Bourne were well set on 68 for one. However, the next 10 overs produced only 23 runs, as Exhall began to bowl tightly and with some astute field placings the pressure told as the partnership was broken in the 25th over when Gabbett was caught in the deep off the bowling of Rob Perry for 40. Tom Burgess then clean bowled John Edden and when Wheeler went for 47 stumped by Scott Carmichael off Perry, Bourne were struggling on 98 for four. This soon became 104 for five when Burgess had Harry Jackman caught at mid-off until Jamie Maynard and Jonny Spence began to claw Bourne back into the game with a 55-run stand until Spence was caught by Josh Smith off Steve Kerby for 15. Kerby soon followed up bowling Tom Shearsby and when Tom Ley had Dave Barnett lbw, Bourne had lost three wickets for the addition of only one run. Maynard continued to play well though until he was out for 43 in the 42nd over to a good catch from Dave Mullet on the wide long-on boundary off the bowling of Weston. Kerby wrapped the innings up in the 43rd over having Chris Evans caught by Burgess and Exhall had gained full bowling points and two extra overs when they began to bat. Kerby finished with 3-26, Burgess 2-35, Perry and Weston 2-40 and Ley 1-28. Exhall began their reply in positive mood with openers Josh Smith and Sam Smith soon ticking the scoreboard along and it was a surprise when the stand had reached 83, Josh Smith was given out caught behind by Barnett off Stephenson for 42. Tom Simpson then hit a couple of lusty blows until Jackman had him lbw for 14 as Bourne were trying in vain to get back into the match. However, Exhall always seemed in command and Sam Smith continued playing well and in partnership with Mullett they took the score along to 145 before Mullett was caught by Jamie Maynard off Stephenson for 18. Smith’s fine innings of 66 ended 17 runs later when Wheeler caught him at mid-wicket off Gary Maynard but Carmichael (22 not out) and Kerby had no trouble in seeing the visitors home for a well-deserved win. Stephenson 2-52, Jackman 1-23 and Maynard 1-41.
