Broadway v Wellesbourne Cricket Club CHL Saturday 1st XI on Sat 06 Jun 2015 at 1.30pm
Wellesbourne Cricket Club Won

Match report Bourne completed their first back to back wins of the season with a seven-wicket victory at Broadway, where the hosts tumbled from 104 for two to 133 all out as skipper Tom Stephenson with five wickets and Jamie Maynard with three ripped through their batting order. After winning the toss on this picturesque cricket ground, Broadway took first strike and skipper Barry Clements was soon into his stride striking three early boundaries but they suffered an early blow when Steve Wheeler was caught behind by Dave Barnett off Chris Evans in the third over with the total on 16. This brought in Matt Phillips and he also was soon striking boundaries and along with Clements the score raced to 79 before Phillips skied a catch to Jamie Maynard off the bowling of Harry Jackman for a quickfire 49. Clements then found another ally in Marcus Humpston, but it was the introduction of Stephenson, along with Jamie Maynard, who pulled the initiative firmly in Bourne’s favour. Stephenson struck first having Humpston caught and bowled for 10 and then Maynard bowled Dave Williams. The usually big-hitting Jamie Powell was next to go, to the relief of the away side, when he holed out to Travis Butcher at deep mid-wicket off Stephenson before Maynard bowled Bruce Ford and Broadway were 127 for six. Clements, who had slowed down his scoring rate, went next, to a catch from 1st team debutant Matt Woods off Stephenson for 52 and then Stephenson completed his nap hand with two more wickets as Josh Burford was stumped by Barnett and Danilo Mendoza was trapped lbw. Maynard then bowled last man Ollie Timperley and Broadway’s collapse was complete, 133 all out. Stephenson finished with excellent figures of 5-12, Maynard 3-15, Evans 1-26 and Jackman 1-36. Although facing a smallish total, the pitch was keeping quite low at times and Bourne needed a good start and openers Gary Maynard and Nick Gabbett provided it. They began their innings in similar fashion to the hosts and both players were soon peppering the boundary with some delightful strokes as they completed a century partnership. However, on reaching 114, and looking like they were heading for a 10-wicket win, Gabbett was bowled by Powell for 46 and then nine runs later Maynard went for 62 to a catch by Ford off Richard Pedley. Then on 130, Ford removed John Edden to a catch by Burford before Jamie Maynard struck the winning boundary to see Bourne home. Ford 1-7, Powell 1-48 and Pedley 1-48.
