Wellesbourne Cricket Club CHL Saturday 1st XI v Long Itchington on Sat 30 May 2015 at 1.30pm
Wellesbourne Cricket Club Won

Match report Bourne made a welcome return to winning ways with a close fought 21-run win over Long Itchington at Loxley Close. Winning the toss, Bourne made a decent start until Gary Maynard was caught behind by James Clarke off Andy Wood for 12 with the score on 34. Wood was bowling well and it was no surprise when he grabbed two more wickets when first Dave Barnett was bowled and he then had Nick Gabbett caught for 27 and the home side were stuttering on 59 for three. However, Harry Jackman and Jamie Maynard then got their heads down and produced a good partnership of 72 until Jackman was caught and bowled by Mitch Lowe for 31. Steve Chapman then trapped John Edden in front before Tom Shearsby joined Maynard and these two took the score to 174 before Shearsby was lbw to Zak Aulach. Travis Butcher soon followed lbw to Chapman and then Maynard’s innings ended when he was caught at deep long off off Alex Jack for a fine 54. Jack immediately had Tom Stephenson lbw before Chris Evans and Karl Mould saw Bourne through to the 45th over on 196 for nine. Wood 3-32, Jack 2-21 and Chapman 2-48 taking the bowling honours but, although Itchington generally bowled well, they conceded 30 wides. In reply T Perks and Jack started solidly until Gary Maynard bowled Perks for 18 with the total on 28. Clarke then joined Jack and steadily they took their partnership to 48 before Stephenson had Clarke caught by Gabbett for 14. Bourne then began to make inroads into the batting and soon Itchington found themselves 95 for six. The third wicket to fall was subject to an excellent piece of fielding from Edden as G Insall was run out and Stephenson removed Jack to a catch from Edden for 39. Jackman took two quick wickets as Brookes was held by Gabbett and S Franks was bowled and Bourne were now in control. However, Itchington were not to be denied and Lowe and Chapman began to knuckle down and built a promising stand as Lowe, in particular, began to hit out but, after hitting two sixes, he tried one too many and was superbly caught on the boundary by Jamie Maynard off his brother Gary for 36 and Itchington were 140 for seven. With the game in the balance Bourne then took two vital wickets as Gary Maynard returned to bowl Chapman for 21 and then Jamie Maynard had Wood caught by Jackman and Itchington found themselves 154 for nine. Aulach and A Smith put on 21 more runs until Jamie Maynard bowled Smith and Itchington were all out for 175 and perhaps rueing those 30 wides. Gary Maynard with 3-33, Jackman 2-28, Jamie Maynard 2-32 and Stephenson 2-28 took the bowling honours for Bourne and a welcome win.
