Exhall & Wixford v Wellesbourne Cricket Club CHL Saturday 1st XI on Sat 23 May 2015 at 1.30pm
Wellesbourne Cricket Club Lost

Match report A magnificent century from Exhall’s overseas player Josh Smith gave his side a comfortable nine-wicket win over Wellesbourne, who struggled against some good bowling and fielding when they batted and were left to rue a costly dropped catch when Smith was on 48. After being put in to bat first Bourne made a confident start with openers Gary Maynard and Nick Gabbett and these two put on 44 before the introduction of B J Weston who took a superb one-handed return catch to dismiss Maynard for 29 in the 11th over. This dismissal and tight bowling put the pressure on Bourne who were finding runs hard to come by and Tom Burgess gained just reward for beating the bat many times when Gabbett was caught behind by Scott Carmichael for 29 with the score on 70. Burgess then trapped Dave Barnett lbw for 10 and Weston removed Harry Jackman to another caught and bowled and Bourne found themselves 82 for four in the 28th over. Jamie Maynard and John Edden began to rebuild the innings and added 37 runs before Tom Lay came on and with his second ball bowled Maynard for 22 and then bowled Tom Shearsby. Rob Perry then had Edden lbw for 22 and at 131 for seven Bourne were struggling to see the overs out. However, Travis Butcher (13 not out) and Chris Evans (12 not out) saw Bourne through to 161 for seven in the 45 overs. Lay 2-12, Burgess 2-28, Weston 2-38 and Perry 1-35 taking the wickets from a very good bowling performance from the home side. Needing early wickets Bourne tried hard but to no avail as Josh Smith and Sam Smith put on a good opening partnership which had reached 68 before Sam Smith was caught by Joe Jordan off Tom Stephenson for 17 in the 18th over. It was two overs later, off Jackman’s first ball, when Josh Smith was missed at mid on and this seemed to deflate Bourne and from that moment Smith completely took the game away and played some marvellous strokes and completed a magnificent century off 104 balls and with Tom Simpston (17 not out) saw his side home, finishing on 116 not out. Stephenson 1-45.
