Wellesbourne Cricket Club CHL Saturday 1st XI v Broadway on Sat 16 Aug 2014 at 1.30pm
Wellesbourne Cricket Club Won

Match report A magnificent century from Bourne skipper Jamie Maynard laid the foundations for a resounding victory over Broadway at Loxley Road. After winning the toss he chose to bat first but the home side soon found themselves struggling on 18 for three as Jamie Powell caught and bowled Nathan Edwards in the second over and Richard Pedley took the wickets of John Edden and Matt Dutton. Jamie Maynard then joined brother Gary at the crease and they took the score to 46 before Gary Maynard was smartly caught at second slip by Matt Phillips off Andy Smallman for 31 and Bourne were looking in trouble. However Jamie Maynard found an ally in Dave Barnett and these two rallied the innings in a stand of 69 with some good shots and smart running between the wickets before Barnett was bowled by Barry Clements for 43. Harry Jackman then came in and continued to keep the momentum going and Jamie Maynard, although dropped a couple of times, began to play some expansive shots and the score rattled on to 180 before Jackman was caught by Powell off Phillips for 34. Maynard continued his onslaught and with the help of Tom Shearsby, Bourne reached 216 before Shearsby was caught by James Cutler off Powell, who then trapped Darren Mole lbw leaving Chris Evans to partner Jamie Maynard to the close of the innings on 237 for eight. Maynard’s excellent knock contained three towering sixes and he finished 101 not out reaching the landmark off the last ball of the 45th over. Powell 3-34 and Pedley 2-71 took the bowling honours. In reply Broadway’s openers Clements and Frank Carenza started their innings carefully but in the sixth over Gary Maynard had Clements superbly caught behind by Barnett for 11 with the score on 13. Gary Evans then joined Carenza and they slowly reached 59 in the 22nd over when Stephenson bowled Carenza for 14. Evans continued his knock but on reaching 39 he was well caught in the deep by Gary Maynard off Jackman and Phillips followed in the next over when Gary Maynard caught him off Stephenson and when Stephenson had the dangerous Powell caught by Jamie Maynard, Broadway’s innings was in tatters on 83 for five. The sixth wicket soon followed as Stephenson took his fourth wicket and Gary Maynard his third catch as Cutler perished and then Edwards cleaned up the tail, taking the final four wickets, all clean bowled and Broadway were all out for 121 in the 45th over. Edwards finished with 4-17, Stephenson 4-23, Gary Maynard 1-10 and Jackman 1-17.
