Exhall & Wixford v Wellesbourne Cricket Club CHL Saturday 1st XI on Sat 09 Aug 2014 at 1.30pm
Match was Tied

Match report A scrambled leg bye off the last ball resulted in a tied match between Exhall & Wixford and Wellesbourne. With Exhall needing only two runs to win Bourne’s Nathan Edwards produced a superb over as Exhall skipper Steve Kerby could not lay his bat on any delivery and with Bourne convinced he was lbw to the final ball Exhall managed to obtain the tie. Bourne made a fine start after Kerby put them in to bat with Gary Maynard and Nathan Edwards continuing their good partnerships of recent weeks and they soon moved the score along to 63 in the 11th over before they had a mini collapse. Edwards was caught at square leg by Lay off Jon Simpson for 26 and Maynard, who was looking in good form, followed four runs later lbw to Josh Smith for 37. Matt Dutton and Tom Havers then both perished as Josh Smith grabbed their wickets and Bourne found themselves 75 for four. However, skipper Jamie Maynard was joined by Harry Jackman and these two began to rally the innings with both playing some fine cover drives and they took the score to 122 before Jackman was caught at cover off R Perry for 24. This brought Tom Shearsby to the crease and he and Jamie Maynard kept the momentum going until Maynard was superbly caught at wide mid-off by Kerby off B J Weston for 34. Shearsby continued to bat well and with the assistance of John Edden they pushed the score along to 188 before Kerby had two wickets in successive balls as Shearsby went caught behind by Scott Carmichael and Darren Mole was trapped lbw. Edden (19 not out) and Chris Evans saw the score to 202 without further mishap and the innings closed. Josh Smith 3-22 and Kerby 2-35 taking the bowling honours. In reply Bourne made an early breakthrough having Josh Smith caught by Tom Stephenson off Chris Evans with the score on 16 but then Sam Smith and Tom Simpson produced an excellent stand as both played with freedom and the game seemed to be drifting away from Bourne until Shearsby with his first ball had Simpson (35) caught at backward square leg by Evans and then in the next over Stephenson had Sam Smith (44) caught by Jamie Maynard and suddenly the hosts were 109 for three. Stephenson then picked up Ferley’s wicket for 11 with a catch by Havers and Bourne began to fancy their chances. Carmichael and Hopkins began to steady the innings but it was the introduction of Edwards that changed the match situation. Bowling with pace and control he took three quick wickets bowling Hopkins, having Carmichael caught behind by Mole and then castling Jon Simpson and Exhall were rocking on 160 for seven. A cool head was needed by Exhall and Kerby provided it and with the help of Perry they began to inch away at the total and with 10 needed off the last two overs Perry struck two boundaries before Jackman bowled him off the final delivery of the 44th over to set up that thrilling finish. Edwards returned excellent figures of 3-15 off nine overs, Stephenson 2-42, Shearsby 1-18, Evans 1-32 and Jackman 1-43.
