Wellesbourne Cricket Club Won

Match report Saturday 5th July

Cotswold Hills Premier Division

Elmley Castle 127 all out
Wellesbourne 129 for one

Wellesbourne gained a comfortable nine-wicket success at Loxley Road over bottom-of-the-table Elmley Castle to continue their good recent form. Having won the toss Elmley batted first and found Bourne’s opening bowlers Chris Evans and Gary Maynard once again this season bowling some tight early overs and it was this pressure that eventually proved S Charlton’s downfall in the 14th over as he was caught at slip by Nathan Edwards off Maynard for 11 with the score on 34. S Cooper and S Corbett then tried to press on and they took the score to 75 before Cooper (38) was well caught in the deep by Tom Havers off Harry Jackman and Corbett (16) went caught and bowled to Tom Stephenson with the score on 92. However it was from a solid position of 102 for three that Elmley’s innings fell apart as G Howman (17) was next to go with Jamie Maynard holding on to a stunning catch at short extra cover off Jackman and the next four batsmen went without scoring with Jackman bowling A Hemming and Tom Stephenson taking three quick wickets having P Cross caught by Joe Jordan, A Charlton caught by Edwards and R Dyde lbw. N Cooper watched all this from the other end and he took his score to 21 not out but lost two further partners as Jackman bowled W Flower and Stephenson completed his nap hand when S Hopkins hold out at deep mid wicket to Tom Shearsby and the innings folded on 127 all out. Stephenson finished with excellent figures of 5-23, Jackman likewise with 4-35 and Gary Maynard 1-13 off eight overs. In reply Bourne had an early setback in the first over as N Cooper had Gary Maynard caught behind by G Howman but it was to be Elmley‘s only success as Edwards and Matt Dutton took the bowling apart with a partnership of 127. Edwards, looking in superb form, raced to 80 not out and Dutton made 37 not out and Bourne were home to victory in the 20th over. N Cooper 1-34 taking the only wicket for Elmley, who unfortunately, are going to find it extremely hard to stay in the division this season.
