Elmley Castle v Wellesbourne Cricket Club CHL Saturday 1st XI on Sat 28 Jun 2014 at 1.30pm
Wellesbourne Cricket Club Won

Match report Faced with a revised target of 132 off 35 overs Wellesbourne completed a seven-wicket win at Elmley Castle in a rain-affected game and it moves them up to second in the league, albeit 36 points behind runaway leaders Shipston-on-Stour. Elmley batted first after losing the toss and openers C Sheward and R Eaton made a very good start with Sheward in partlcular looking to score at every opportunity and the dogged Eaton looking to survive. After a break for rain, they took their partnership to 76 before Sheward fell two runs short of a deserved half century to a catch by Chris Evans off Tom Stephenson. S Cooper joined Eaton and after a couple of boundaries Cooper fell caught and bowled to Matt Dutton for 11 and with only one run added W Cooper was trapped in front by Stephenson and the home side were 94 for three. Bourne were now right back in the game and wickets began to fall with Stephenson taking his tally to four, as first J Cawson was caught by Dave Barnett and S Charlton was lbw. Tom Shearsby then joined the attack and he picked up the next two wickets having P Cross lbw and J Richardson superbly held at slip by Nathan Edwards and Elmley were rocking on 132 for seven. However, Eaton continued his vigil and although he lost W Bailey to a stumping by Barnett off Jackman and J Bailey bowled by Shearsby, he batted through for 39 not out to see Elmley to 169 for nine off their 45 overs. Stephenson with 4-29, Shearsby 3-20, Jackman 1-21 and Dutton 1-23 took the bowling honours. Bourne opened up with a new partnership of Gary Maynard and Edwards and both players were soon up and running taking a couple of early boundaries each but on 44 W Bailey bowled Maynard for 19. With rain beginning to fall Dutton came in and he and Edwards continued to score quickly before Dutton was bowled by S Webb for 18 and then Edwards went to a catch by J Bailey off S Webb for a fine 52 and Bourne were 100 for three. Although Elmley seemed reluctant to carry on, the umpires continued the game and Tom Havers and Jamie Maynard saw Bourne home in the 21st over with Havers finishing on 29 not out. Webb 2-29 and Bailey 1-26 taking the wickets.
