Wellesbourne Cricket Club CHL Saturday 1st XI v Leamington 3rds on Sat 03 May 2014 at 1.30pm
Wellesbourne Cricket Club Won

Match report Wellesbourne made a winning start to the new season with a five-wicket victory over Leamington III in a low-scoring game which contained 47 wides/no balls. With Jamie Maynard taking over the captaincy for Bourne this season his first task after winning the toss was to insert the opposition and this move proved to be correct as opening bowlers Chris Evans and Gary Maynard immediately were into their stride. Evans struck first when Rob Ainscow was well caught by Nathan Edwards at point with only two on the board. Maynard then trapped Liam Killian lbw and soon followed up when Joseph Somra was caught behind by Dave Barnett and Leamington found themselves 24 for three off 14 overs. It was soon 34 for four as change bowler Joe Jordan was soon to strike as Gary Maynard held a high catch and opener Dan Clarkson was out for 21 (which turned out to be the joint top score in the match with the bat). The visitors then began to rally with Sam Bishop and Tom Mackrill both playing sensibly and they took the score along to 72 before former skipper Tom Stephenson broke the stand when Mackrill was held at slip by Jamie Maynard for 19. Bishop (20) soon followed with another good catch at deep long off by Edwards off Stephenson and it did not take too long for Bourne to finish off the innings. First skipper Matt Dale was run out following good work by Edwards and Barnett, Stephenson had Lee Credgington caught by debutant Dominic Dann, who soon had his second catch when Paul Rowe mistimed a full toss off Edwards and it was left to Stephenson to clean bowl last man Nathan Credgington and the visitors were all out for 85 in the 35th over. Stephenson took 4-22, Maynard 2-8, Jordan 1-14, Evans 1-17 and Edwards 1-22. Bourne began their reply with a new opening partnership as Gary Maynard was joined by Harry Jackman and with Maynard soon off the mark, Jackman’s first delivery was a beamer which went to the boundary and after four overs 34 was already on the board due mainly to some wayward bowling. The total soon went to 55, thanks mainly to 28 wides and five no balls, but it was change bowler Jagdeep Khurana who broke the stand with his third ball as he had Maynard caught behind by Mackrill for 21. Two runs later Jackman ran himself out for nine and then Paul Rowe had Jamie Maynard lbw and Bourne were beginning to wobble. Khurana grabbed his second wicket when he had Barnett trapped in front and Edwards was another run out victim and the home side were 75 for five. However sanity prevailed and sixth-wicket pair Dann and Ricky Alford saw Bourne home for a deserved win. Khurana with 2-8 was by far the pick of the bowling and Rowe finished with 1-40.
