Wellesbourne Cricket Club Won

Match report Wellesbourne Second XI finally secured their first league win of the 2013 campaign with a resounding 8 wicket victory over newly promoted Cookhill on Saturday. After winning the toss and electing to field, Wellesbourne began brightly with Ben Cherry and Matt Stepenson making early inroads into the Cookhill lineup by dismissing both openers with the score on 27. Cherry, making his first start of the season took 2 further wickets in an excellent performance and ended up as the pick of the attck with 3-31. John Edden bowled an immaculate line and length and was well rewarded with the wicket of the dangerous Gill who was trapped in front for a well played 19. A spirited last 5 overs saw Cookhill to 161-7 off their allotted 45 overs. Wellesbournes reply began disastrously with both Green and Dann departing without scoring but Johnny Spence and Matt Dutton batted superbly to see Wellesourne home with an unbeaten partnership of 136. Spence top scored with 75 not and Dutton contributed 68 not out. Despite this victory Wellesbourne remain in the relegation zone as they travel to fellow strugglers Stanway on Saturday.
