Wellesbourne Cricket Club CHL Saturday 1st XI v Broadway on Sat 17 Aug 2013 at 13:30
Wellesbourne Cricket Club Won

Match report After the disappointment of two successive defeats Bourne regained some momentum with a comfortable seven-wicket victory, which included nine catches, at home against Broadway. Following a minute’s silence to remember former player and much respected local cricket legend Geoff Calcott, play got under way with Bourne asking the visitors to bat first and this soon paid dividends as Gary Maynard had James Martin caught at point by Nathan Edwards in his first over and he followed up in his third over removing fellow opener Luke McDonagh to a slip catch by Jamie Maynard. Chris Evans then picked up two quick wickets, having Nigel Evans caught at slip by Jamie Maynard and removing Marcus Humpston to a catch behind by Dave Barnett and Broadway were reeling on 17 for four. Skipper Gary Evans and Matt Phillips then began to repair the situation and these two put on a good stand of 84 before Harry Jackman struck two vital blows removing them both; first Phillips (42) to a third slip catch by Jamie Maynard and three runs later Gary Evans (44) succumbed to a catch from Tom Stephenson. Bourne then pegged away at the tail and Jackman had Andy Beale caught by Barnett and then took his fourth wicket when Jason Horsbrough went to a steepling catch on the mid-wicket boundary by Gary Maynard. Stephenson then mopped up the last two wickets having Richard Pedley lbw and Matthew Ross caught by Joe Jordan, leaving Stephen Wheeler 12 not out and the Broadway innings closed on 135. Jackman finished with 4-33, Maynard 2-16, Stephenson 2-17 and Evans 2-24. In reply Bourne lost Gary Maynard for 12 to a good catch at mid-wicket by McDonagh off Pedley with the score on 25 before Jamie Maynard joined Tommy Wheeler at the crease and these two played well in taking the score to 69 before Wheeler was stumped by Humpston off Beale for 26. Edwards then came in and with Jamie Maynard looking in good form these two kept the scoreboard ticking along nicely as the rain was falling until Edwards was caught by Wheeler off McDonagh for 16 with only 10 required. Jackman then joined Maynard and these two saw Bourne home when Maynard hit the winning boundary to finish with an excellent 63 not out. McDonagh 1-4, Pedley 1-25 and Beale 1-53 taking the wickets.
