Norton Lindsey v Wellesbourne Cricket Club CHL Saturday 1st XI on Sat 13 Jul 2013 at 13:30
Wellesbourne Cricket Club Won

Match report Played on the serene and beautiful cricket ground of Warwick School on another sun-drenched day, Bourne made it six wins in a row with an emphatic 119-run success over hosts Norton Lindsey. On winning the toss Bourne made the obvious choice to bat first in the searing heat and openers Gary Maynard and Tommy Wheeler once again gave their side an excellent start with an opening stand of 96. Facing some wayward early overs, both players were soon into their stride and with the fast outfield, they were soon peppering the boundary and playing some lovely shots. Wheeler made it to his half century first but on reaching 51 he attempted a quick single and was run out. Sunny Singh-Nijjar then trapped Jamie Maynard in front and after 20 overs Bourne were 118 for two and a huge total was on the horizon. However Gary Maynard was then caught at deep mid-off by Steve Bliwert off Andy Dewar for a fine 60 and when Charles Tustain caught`and bowled Dave Barnett and bowled Harry Jackman in successive deliveries, Bourne were 144 for five and Norton were right back in the game. Bourne’s fifth-wicket partnership of Nathan Edwards and Tom Shearsby though halted the slide and these two batted extremely well and runs were again coming thick and fast as Norton struggled to contain the boundaries. Edwards then went to a fine catch on the mid-wicket boundary by Tustain off Paul Ashley for a good 44 and the same bowler had Shearsby (23) caught and bowled and Bourne were 206 for seven. Phil Rothwell was then lbw to Ashley and although Chris Evans (14) was looking in good form, when he was caught and bowled by Dave McInnes the total was 226 for nine with seven overs remaining. Skipper Tom Stephenson (19 not out) and Joe Jordan both got their heads down and put on 20 runs for the last wicket and the innings closed on 246 for nine. Ashley 3-30 and Tustain 2-45 being the pick of the bowlers. Bourne soon made inroads when Norton batted as Chris Evans had Dave Currall brilliantly caught by Wheeler at cover in the first over and in the next over Gary Maynard bowled McInnes and the hosts were five for two after two overs. Perhaps it was fielding in the sun for three hours that made Norton feel this was an IPL 20-over game but the majority of the early batsmen were looking for quick runs and Ashley (11) was next to go when Wheeler caught him off Jordan. Stephenson then superbly caught Singh-Nijjar again off Jordan and Wheeler took his third catch and Jordan his third wicket when Dave Fell was out and half the side were back in the pavilion with only 53 on the board. Henry Turner then perished to a good catch at deep long on by Gary Maynard off Stephenson and the same bowler had Steve Webber (18) caught by Jackman and Norton were 84 for seven. However with the arrival of Dewar to join Tustain normal batting resumed and these two, although quick to punish the bad ball, batted sensibly taking the score to 117 before Gary Maynard returned and had Dewar (10) lbw. Two runs later, Tustain was caught behind by Barnett off Jackman for 34 and with Bourne seeking the extra two bowling points, it was another excellent catch by Edwards off Jackman that removed Chris Andrews, that gave them the points and it was a credit to the side who took eight catches. Jordan finished with 3-25, Jackman 2-11, Stephenson 2-31, Maynard 2-35 and Evans 1-13.
