Tanworth & Camp Hill 186 for 9

Wellesbourne won by 102 runs

WELLESBOURNE regained their winning ways with an emphatic 102-run
victory over Tanworth and Camp Hill. After winning the toss and
batting first ’Bourne suffered an early blow when Patrick Prasad was
caught behind by I Jordan off Tariq with the score on 12. This brought
in Jamie Maynard to join his brother Gary at the crease and these two
rectified the situation with a fine partnership of 106 until Gary was
caught by C Pearce on the boundary off D Terrace for a fine 64 in the
21st over. Adam Kerrigan then joined Jamie Maynard and these continued
the good work with another solid partnership of 92 before Kerrigan was
run out for 41. Maynard was next to go for an excellent 86 when he was
stumped by D Hill off the bowling of Tariq with the score on 233. Dave
Barnett and Tom Shearsby were also quickly into their stride and with
both players running well between the wickets runs were coming thick
and fast until in the final over when three wickets fell. Barnett was
stumped for 37, Nathan Edwards and Neil Weston also followed leaving
Shearsby 14 not out and the innings closed on a healthy 288 for seven.
Tariq 2-78, Pearce 2-60 and Terrace 1-33 being the pick of the
Tanworth bowlers. In reply Tanworth made a solid start against some
good bowling from Chris Evans and Gary Maynard but it was the
introduction into the attack of Matt Stephenson that turned the game
firmly in Bourne’s favour. With the score on 29 he clean bowled I
Jordan in his first over and then went on to take an excellent five-
wicket haul, aided by three catches from Shearsby, Edwards and a
particularly fine catch by Kerrigan who moved from slip to take the
catch at leg slip, as the visitors faltered to 88 for five. Tanworth
rallied their innings at this point and took their score to 147 before
Tom Stephenson grabbed the sixth wicket when Kerrigan held another
good catch at slip and Kerrigan himself got a wicket with a catch from
Evans. Wtih ’Bourne needing to get maximum bowling points Maynard
returned to take two wickets but they could not take the last one.
Matt Stephenson finished with 5-41, Maynard 2-31, Kerrigan 1-22 and
Tom Stephenson 1-55 with S Reeve (25), D Futter (48), M Weir (27) and
J Carey (17) being the main contributors to Tanworth‘s total of 186
for nine.
