Wellesbourne Cricket Club CHL Saturday 1st XI v Alcester & Ragley on Sat 31 Aug 2019 at 1.30pm
Wellesbourne Cricket Club Won by 120 runs

Match report Wellesbourne’s final game of the 2019 season ended in victory by 120 runs over relegated Alcester & Ragley in a game reduced to 40 overs due to early rain and they have finished third in the league with Exhall & Wixford deserved champions. Winning the toss Bourne decided to bat first and after picking their batting order by drawing cards soon lost Travis Butcher bowled by Darren Kok. Things didn’t improve greatly and during the 16th over found themselves struggling on 53 for six. Rowan Magnall (2-16) took the next two wickets to fall having Tom Stephenson (12) bowled and Noah Rose caught by Adam Farrow. Tommy Wheeler, batting left-handed, was then bowled by Kok (2-31) for 21 before Farrow (2-11) took two wickets in an over having Reece Myatt bowled and Sean Hopwood caught by Alex Gretton. Normality then resumed as usual openers Darren Mole and Myles Isted produced a fine stand of 75 with some good batting until Mole (18) was caught by Chris Dawson off Jethro Powell bringing Jamie Maynard to join Isted and these two kept the score ticking along nicely until Isted went on 162 caught by Dave Magnall off Olly Swinburn for a fine 68. Skipper Dave Barnett was then bowled by Gretton leaving Maynard (28 not out) and John Edden to take the total to 200 in their 40 overs. Bourne themselves soon made a breakthrough in the second over with the score on seven, as Myatt (1-19) had Ben Lee playing on before Ben Shuttleworth and Swinburn dug in and posted a 48-run stand before the wheels fell off the Alcester bus. Mole (1-15) bowled Shuttleworth before Barnett, relinquishing his gloves, proceeded to take the next five wickets for eight runs in an excellent spell, first having Swinburn caught by Wheeler before clean bowling Gretton and Tim Foster, trapping Powell lbw before bowling Farrow and the visitors were 67 for seven. Maynard (1-6), bowling left arm spin, clean bowled Dave Magnall before Stephenson (2-5) wrapped up the final two wickets and Alcester were all out for 80 with Kok finishing on 11 not out. The final position means that in the last 10 years Bourne have yet to finish below third in the table, a fine achievement.
