Norton Lindsey v Wellesbourne Cricket Club CHL Saturday 1st XI on Sat 20 Jul 2019 at 1.30pm
Wellesbourne Cricket Club Won by 1 wicket

Match report An outstanding innings of 67 not out from John Edden and fine contributions from youngsters Noah Rose and Reece Myatt gave Wellesbourne a tense and exciting one-wicket win at Norton Lindsey where they recovered from 78 for eight to reach their target of 160. With overnight rain seeping under the covers, Bourne won the toss and put Norton into bat but the hosts made a decent start until on 32 in the sixth over Rose removed Martin Perfect to a catch behind by Dave Barnett. Fellow opener Gavin Shephard was fortunate to survive a couple of chances before Rose (6-1-2-29) struck again having Stuart Shephard caught by Craig Cook before Myatt (10-1-2-51) got two quick wickets removing Sunny Singh-Nijjar to a catch by Barnett and having Conor Green well held by Rose and Norton were 74 for four. The fifth wicket pair of Shephard and Matthew Edwards then produced a stand of 47 before Sean Hopwood got his rewards for a fine spell having Edwards (13) stumped by Barnett and after Richard Blythe (10) and Shephard (77) took the score to 144, Hopwood had the latter to another stumping by Barnett before Jamie Maynard had Blythe caught and bowled on the same score. Bourne soon wrapped up the tail as Hopwood (10-2-3-23) had Steve Bliwert caught behind by Barnett before Maynard (4.3-1-3-10) took the final two wickets having Dave McInnes caught by Rose and Tom Wilcox to a catch by Barnett giving him his sixth victim and Norton closed on 159 all out in the 41st over. Faced with a target of 160 in 49 overs, Bourne did not make a good start as Wilcox (7-1-3-27) took three wickets in the first 10 overs as Mole went caught and bowled, Maynard was trapped lbw and Isted was caught at mid-wicket by Blythe and the visitors were 32 for three. Things slightly improved as Barnett and Edden put on 26 runs before Barnett was caught by Perfect off Edwards for 26 before another collapse resulted in four wickets falling in quick succession. Edwards had Travis Butcher lbw, Matt Woods was bowled by Nijjar, Cook was caught by Gavin Shephard off Edwards (9-0-3-38) and when Hopwood was adjudged lbw off Nijjar (9-2-2-25) Bourne were staring defeat in the face on 78 for eight and seemed to be heading for their third loss in consecutive games for the first time since 2007. However, Edden had other ideas and he found a good ally in Rose and with some sensible and brave batting these two began to build a match-winning stand of 63 with Edden taking the major role with some fine shots and Rose playing very steadily until Rose unfortunately was caught by Edwards off Blythe for a well-earned 22. With 19 runs still needed last man Myatt came to join Edden and although he only faced five balls he allowed Edden to finish the game off with two huge sixes and a welcome win for Bourne.
