Wellesbourne Cricket Club CHL Saturday 1st XI v Norton Lindsey on Sat 18 May 2019 at 1.30pm
Wellesbourne Cricket Club Won by 6 wickets

Match report Wellesbourne bounced back from last week’s defeat to gain an excellent six-wicket win over Norton Lindsey at Loxley Close due mainly to a fine performance in the field with the old adage “catches win matches” being very much to the fore. Lindsey won the toss and took first strike and openers Gavin Shephard and Richard Pozzi were quickly into their stride but on 23 Bourne made the breakthrough having Shephard (14) well caught by Tommy Wheeler at mid on off Reece Myatt and 10 runs later Jamie Maynard bowled Sunny Singh-Nijjar. Stuart Shephard then joined Pozzi and these two began to build a good partnership before Bourne struck again on 78 when Shephard was caught by Tom Stephenson off Darren Mole for 29 and Stephenson picked up two quick wickets himself having Conor Green caught by Maynard and Martin Perfect caught by Dave Barnett. Pozzi and Dan Fell then combined taking the score over 100 before a superb catch by Maynard off Stephenson ended Fell’s innings of 15 and Pozzi then perished to another fine catch by Maynard off Sean Hopwood for a solid 33 and Lindsey were struggling on 116 for seven. Things didn’t improve for the away side and Bourne soon took the final three wickets with Hopwood dismissing Dave McInnes to another excellent catch by Wheeler, Stephenson having Andy Dewar caught by Barnett before last man Steven Webber was run out following good work by Ricky Alford leaving Matthew Edwards 22 not out and Lindsey all out for 148 in the 42nd over. Stephenson finished with 4-25, Hopwood 2-28, Maynard 1-23, Mole 1-28 and Myatt 1-41. Bourne’s openers Myles Isted and Wheeler made a solid start to the target before Pozzi had Wheeler caught with the score on 28. Maynard then came in to partner Isted and these two began to look comfortable but after playing one exquisite cover drive for four Isted (29) fell to a catch in the gully by Dewar off the bowling of Edwards and the home side were 61 for two. Maynard, however, continued in fine form smiting two huge straight sixes and with the help of Mole put Bourne into a strong position before Maynard, going for another six, was stumped by Stuart Shephard off Dewar for a good 57 with the total on 121. With victory in sight, Craig Cook then perished for 12 to a catch by Singh-Nijjar off Green before Barnett hit the winning runs with Mole finishing 16 not out and a welcome win for Bourne. One footnote: Jamie Maynard passed 4,000 runs and took his 100th catch in the Premier Division for Bourne in this game.
