Long Itchington v Wellesbourne Cricket Club CHL Saturday 1st XI on Sat 11 Aug 2018 at 1.30pm
Wellesbourne Cricket Club Won by 52 runs

Match report With Wellesbourne posting a very ordinary total of 113 the old cricket adage of “let’s wait until both sides have batted” wrang true as hosts Long Itchington collapsed to 61 all out and with Lapworth’s game being abandoned Bourne now lead the Premier Division by nine points as the season enters its final stages with three games left and their hopes of a third title in a row is back on track. Following heavy rain the previous day and winning the toss Itchington skipper James Clarke had no hesitation in putting the visitors into bat first but openers Myles Isted and Ross Milton started steadily and with the help of some wayward bowling took the score to 35 until the ninth over when James Rawbone struck twice having Isted caught behind by Clarke for 16 and then two balls later Jamie Maynard was caught by Zach Aulach. With ten runs added Milton was next to go when Andy Wood bowled him and as hard as Bourne battled wickets continued to fall. Wood bowled Dave Barnett, Tommy Wheeler (16) was bowled by Andrew Smith, John Edden was caught by John Lidster and when Tom Stephenson was caught by Tom Perks the visitors were 89 for seven. Things didn’t improve and Neil Abbott was next to go caught by Aulach off Smith before Darren Mole’s 60 ball watchful innings ended on nine as Baibhab Mishra bowled him and then had Chris Evans caught by Wood leaving Sean Hopwood nine not out and the innings closed on 113 after 39 overs with Bourne grateful for the 38 extras (33 wides) conceded by the home side. Smith 4-22, Wood 2-26, Mishra 2-11 and Rawbone 2-35. Bourne needed a big response in the field and they delivered, keeping things tight and they soon got their rewards. With Evans bowling well at one end conceding only five runs in his seven overs it was Mole who struck first having Mishra (13) lbw and Perks caught by Barnett with the score on 14. The introduction into the attack though of Milton swung the game completely in Bourne’s favour as he grabbed a wicket with his first ball as Ryan Desai was caught by Abbott at mid on, ended Lidster’s 51-ball vigil without scoring by bowling him and then bowled Jamie Breakwell. Mole then picked up his third wicket bowling Tom Crosthwaite for 11 and Itchington were 43 for six. Milton was not to be kept out of the limelight though and he completed his five wicket haul when Clarke was caught by Maynard and Aulach caught by Barnett before Stephenson finished off the tail having Rawbone caught by Isted and finally trapping Wood leg before and the innings ended in the 30th over on 61. Milton with the superb figures of 5-14, Mole 3-26 and Stephenson 2-4 took the honours and spectators and players were left to think “it’s a funny old game”.
