Wellesbourne Cricket Club CHL Saturday 1st XI v Tanworth & Camp Hill on Sat 21 Jul 2018 at 1.30pm
Wellesbourne Cricket Club Won

Match report Wellesbourne continue to lead the Premier Division by a solitary point over Lapworth following a comfortable six wicket win over lowly Tanworth & Camp Hill at Loxley Close as the season enters the final six weeks. Winning the toss Tanworth openers Andy Turnbull and Dan Williams made a good start with Turnbull being the main protaganist and their partnership had reached 59 before Williams was stumped by John Edden off Ross Milton for eight. Turnbull continued to score freely but Milton struck again bowling James Carey with the score on 86 as Bourne began to make inroads into the visitors’ batting. Skipper Dave Barnett then picked up three wickets having Dave Hill caught by Travis Butcher and Sam Jones caught by Chris Evans before he dismissed the prolific Turnbull caught and bowled for a fine 85 and Tanworth were on 120 for five. The rest of the innings never matched Turnbull’s knock with 25 extras being the next top score as Tom Stephenson removed Adrian Bird to a catch by Barnett, Milton trapped Fergus Wassell lbw, AJ Shangardia fell to a catch by Jamie Maynard giving Barnett his fourth victim; Milton then matched that tally as Brandon Kelso was caught in the deep by Butcher before Joe Kelso was run out and the innings folded to 150 all out in the 45th over. Milton had the fine figures of 4-15 off 10 overs, Barnett 4-29 and Stephenson 1-38. Turnbull then struck twice early in Bourne’s reply bowling Milton and having Maynard lbw and when Brandon Kelso bowled Isted (18) Bourne were wobbling on 39 for three and victory seemed a long way off. However, Tommy Wheeler was joined by Barnett and these two dispelled any fears of defeat with some solid batting and their partnership of 76 swung the game well into Bourne’s favour before Wheeler went lbw to AJ for 47. Edden then joined Barnett at the crease and he soon struck two fours and a six to take the home side to victory. Barnett completed a fine all-round game finishing on 45 not out and Edden 18 not out. Turnbull 2-36 and Kelso 1-22.
