Alcester & Ragley v Wellesbourne Cricket Club CHL Saturday 1st XI on Sat 16 Jun 2018 at 1.30pm
Wellesbourne Cricket Club Won

Match report A mammoth 210-run win at Ragley Hall has stretched Wellesbourne’s winning run to six and kept them firmly at the top of the table by 20 points and this week they were indebted to a solid all-round batting and bowling performance with John Edden and Darren Mole taking the starring roles. Taking first strike Bourne made their best start of the season with openers Myles Isted and Ross Milton looking in fine form and although both players gave a couple of chances they posted a good opening partnership of 72 from 18 overs before Milton fell to a smart catch behind by Paul Dipple off Brad Jeffries for 24. Jamie Maynard then joined Isted at the crease and these two moved the total on to 100 before Jeffries struck again having Isted caught by Darren Kok for a good 47. Maynard, with the assistance of Dave Barnett, began to quicken the run rate until on 139 after hitting a couple of sixes, Maynard went lbw to Darren Turner for 46. Barnett and Edden continued to up the tempo and 62 runs came in six overs before Barnett was caught by Ben Shuttleworth off Turner for 37. Edden continued his onslaught and in partnership with Mole runs flowed quickly with Edden striking five maximums the score moved along to 268 before he fell to a catch by John Lowe off Kok in the last over for a superb 64. Mole finished on 26 not out and Bourne closed on 278 for five. Jeffries 2-52 and Turner 2-54. Although Ben Lee and Gary Strain began Alcester’s reply looking in good touch Chris Evans struck in the fifth over trapping Lee in front with the score on 13 and from then on Bourne’s opening bowlers took complete control with two fine spells. Three runs later Mole bowled Kok and when Evans had Shuttleworth well caught at second slip by Barnett and Mole dismissed Strain to a Barnett catch Alcester were 19 for four and looking in dire straits. Things never improved for the home side as wickets continued to fall with Mole having Turner lbw before Evans bowled Jeffries. A plucky little partnership of 21 ensued from Tim Foster and Jethro Powell until on 50 Mole took two wickets in three balls, bowling Foster for 11 and having Dipple lbw. Powell (19) was then run out from a direct throw from Isted before Sean Hopwood took the last wicket of Craig Wiggett giving Barnett his third catch and Alcester were all out for a disappointing 68. Mole had the fine figures of 5-23, Evans 3-21 and Hopwood 1-4.
