Wellesbourne Cricket Club CHL Saturday 1st XI v Shipston on Stour on Sat 26 May 2018 at 1.30pm
Wellesbourne Cricket Club Won

Match report An abject batting display from Shipston enabled Wellesbourne to continue their winning run with an emphatic nine-wicket victory at Loxley Close. Although they began the game with nine men owing to work commitments, Bourne won the toss and decided to field first and Shipston opener Julian Morris soon began to play some good looking shots, however, in the seventh over with the score on 14 fellow opener Simon Willey was trapped lbw by Chris Evans. This brought Matt Corby to the crease to join Morris but in the 11th over Evans, who bowled a fine opening spell, struck two vital blows for the home side, first dismissing Morris (15) to a superb catch by Jamie Maynard, who running backwards at slip had to take the catch over his shoulder and then he bowled Corby (10) and the visitors were 32 for three. Marcus Ireland was then unluckily run out when Darren Mole deflected a drive by Jack Murphy onto the stumps and when Murphy was lbw to Mole Shipston had slumped to 47 for five. One run later Tom Stephenson had Nick Hibberd caught by Evans before Sean Hopwood took the wicket of skipper Tom Cox to another catch by Evans. With nobody seemingly wanting to stay and battle for runs Stephenson then picked up two more wickets removing Sam Cross (11) to a catch by Ross Milton and Jamie Shurmer to a catch by Maynard. Number 10 batsman Neil Wilson (19 not out) struck a couple of meaty blows before Hopwood had Sam Dexter lbw and the visitors were all out for a paltry 83 in the 29th over. Evans finished with 3-15, Stephenson 3-23, Hopwood 2-16 and Mole 1-27. Faced with a small target Bourne were then gifted some early runs and raced to 31 off only three overs as Myles Isted and Milton looked completely untroubled with both players scoring runs at ease, as no Shipston bowler could curtail the run flow and it came as a surprise when with the total on 73 Isted fell for 21 to a caught and bowled by Cross. Maynard then joined Milton, who finished on 38 not out, and with the scores level struck a mighty six to win the game. A very good result for Bourne but a day to forget for the visitors.
