Wellesbourne Cricket Club CHL Saturday 1st XI v Tanworth & Camp Hill on Sat 24 Jun 2017 at 1.30pm
Wellesbourne Cricket Club Won

Match report Bourne gained a fourth successive win with a comprehensive 157-run win over visitors Tanworth & Camp Hill and have moved to the top of the table with four teams now separated by only five points as the season approaches the halfway stage. Batting first though Bourne were soon struggling on 31 for two as Tanworth made two early breakthroughs with Rob Horn bowling Gary Maynard for 14 and Rory Turnbull having Jonny Spence caught by Dave Wigley. Skipper Dave Barnett then joined Darren Mole and these two rectified the situation with some sensible batting with Mole in particular playing well before he fell lbw to Wigley for 43 with the score on 96. Barnett then added 30 runs with John Edden (10) before Wigley had the latter caught behind by Dan Williams. This dismissal brought Jamie Maynard to the crease to join his skipper and it was this partnership that took the game away from Tanworth. Barnett was in excellent form playing some fine shots as the pair put on a 111-run partnership and it was a surprise when with four runs needed for a much-deserved century he was bowled by Andy Turnbull. Maynard then took over the mantle striking three sixes in his innings of 77 not out and with Travis Butcher the score rattled on to 278 before Butcher was bowled by Andy Turnbull with two balls to go and Bourne finished on a healthy 280 for six from their 45 overs. Andy Turnbull 2-22, Wigley 2-62, Rory Turnbull 1-29 and Horn 1-58. Faced with such a big total to chase down Tanworth needed a good start but they were soon rocking on five for two as Gary Maynard bowled Horn and Ben Cherry had Andy Turnbull caught behind by Barnett. The Bourne opening bowlers never let up as they tore into the visitors’ batting taking three wickets each and Tanworth soon found themselves on 48 for six. Cherry bowled Andy Linfield for 18, Maynard had Fred Howard caught by Edden and clean bowled Dan Dixon before Cherry removed Williams lbw. Tanworth then showed a bit of spirit with James Carey and Wigley combining in a stand of 58 before the introduction of young left armer Sean Hopwood who finished the Tanworth resistance in fine style capturing the final four wickets. Wigley was caught by Gary Maynard, Carey’s good innings of 48 ended with a great catch by Spence, Brandon Kelso was caught by Mole before finally Rory Turnbull was trapped leg before and Tanworth were all out in the 35th over for 123. Hopwood with 4-12 off nine overs, Maynard 3-27 and Cherry 3-45 doing the damage.
