Wellesbourne Cricket Club CHL Saturday 1st XI v Exhall & Wixford on Sat 18 Jun 2016 at 1.30pm
Wellesbourne Cricket Club Won

Match report Bourne made it seven in a row with a 62-run win over last year’s champions Exhall & Wixford in a game where the visitors were left to rue five missed catches as Bourne’s superior fielding skills played a big part in the result after they had to dig deep when slumping to 32 for three after being asked to bat first. B J Weston struck the first two blows having Gary Maynard and Dave Barnett both caught behind by Scott Carmichael and when Tom Burgess bowled Craig Cook, Bourne were in disarray. Jamie Maynard then came in for his 100th innings for the team and with opener Jonny Spence these two set about repairing the damage and with some careful batting against some tight bowling, they began to rescue the situation and after 20 overs Bourne were 58 for three. Spence, trying to up the tempo, was then bowled by R Nicholls for 38 with the score on 75 but Maynard continued to bat well and with help from Adam Kerrigan slowly but surely the innings gained momentum. Kerrigan was next to go on 125 when Rob Perry bowled him for 14 and Harry Jackman (10) followed bowled by Martin Park. Maynard then began to score freely, hitting a couple of sixes, before Burgess took the wickets of Travis Butcher bowled and Tom Shearsby caught by Carmichael. Maynard’s excellent innings ended in the last over when he was caught off Tom Ley for 79 and when Tom Stephenson was run out, Bourne finished 179 all out. Burgess 3-31 and B J Weston 2-24 the pick of the Exhall bowlers. Julian Morris and skipper Sam Smith began confidently in reply but Gary Maynard then clean bowled Morris for 12. Smith was then joined by Tom Simpson and these two began to build a partnership until Shearsby had Simpson (14) well caught at first slip by Kerrigan and Exhall were 41 for two. Maynard and Shearsby continued to bowl well in tandem and Shearsby struck again when Smith (20) was superbly caught behind by Barnett and Maynard removed Park to another catch by Barnett. The fifth wicket was unlucky for Carsley when Shearsby attempting a caught and bowled deflected the ball onto the stumps to run him out and when Maynard had Carmichael caught by Jackman, Bourne had turned the game around as Exhall were stuttering on 60 for six. However, Weston and Perry had other ideas and with some big hitting took the score to 109 before Weston fell to a superb catch on the boundary by Jamie Maynard off the bowling of 1st XI debutant Ben Cherry for 31. This ended Exhall’s resistance and Jackman bowled Perry for 16 before Stephenson took the final two wickets having Nicholls caught by Gary Maynard and Ley stumped by Barnett and they finished on 117 all out. Gary Maynard took 3-25, Stephenson 2-2, Shearsby 2-48, Jackman 1-17 and Cherry 1-25 as Bourne have made there best ever start to a Cotswold Hills season and top the premier division by 49 points.
