Catherine de Barnes v Wellesbourne Cricket Club CHL Saturday 1st XI on Sat 11 Jun 2016 at 1.30pm
Wellesbourne Cricket Club Won

Match report It’s six of the best as Bourne kept their momentum going with an emphatic 130-run win at Catherine-de-Barnes with Gary Maynard’s superb century laying the foundations for another fine victory for the league leaders against the third-placed side. Batting first for the first time this season Bourne made an indifferent start slumping to 27 for two as Catney skipper James Mason claimed two early wickets with Tommy Wheeler being caught at slip and Craig Cook held at short cover. This brought skipper Dave Barnett in to join opener Gary Maynard and these two rebuilt the innings in spectacular style with some fine batting. Maynard continued his good recent form and was soon finding the boundary with ease and Barnett too was looking good and although Catney tried to stem the flow of runs they didn’t succeed and these two put on an excellent partnership of 143 until Maynard, after hitting 17 fours and four sixes, tried one too many and was held on the mid-wicket boundary off Mason for 111. Mason then took his fourth wicket as Kerrigan perished to another catch before Barnett was caught at long on for 49 off Dave Stibbon and Bourne were 186 for four. Jamie Maynard and Harry Jackman kept the run rate going until with the score on 210 a mix-up resulted in Maynard being run out for 15. Travis Butcher joined Jackman and both players continued to up the tempo and the score raced to 271 before Jackman was run out for 44 in the 43rd over. Butcher and Tom Shearsby took the final total to a commanding 284 for seven with Butcher finishing on a first team best of 42 not out. Mason was by far the pick of Catney’s bowling finishing with 4-31. Faced with a daunting total Catney obviously needed a good start but Shearsby struck in the second over removing Mason to a fine caught and bowled and Catney were five for one. This brought the dangerous Stibbon to the crease to join L Hanlon and he was soon finding the boundary with some big hitting until Jackman came on and with his first ball had Stibbon caught behind by Barnett for 34 and then Gary Maynard removed Hanlon (11) caught behind by Barnett and Catney were 54 for three. Bourne were now buoyant and Jackman had J Lister caught by Barnett before C Mace was run out by a fine throw from Gary Maynard and Jackman took his third wicket as Butcher caught L Basnett as Catney slumped to 79 for six. This soon became 95 for seven as Maynard returned to have S Wardell caught by Barnett for his fourth catch and the end seemed close but O Basnett and D Price began to counter attack taking the total to 140 before Basnett was well caught by a diving Gary Maynard off Kerrigan for 36. The final two wickets soon followed with A Prince caught by Jamie Vasdasz off Shearsby and Kerrigan having N Spence caught by Shearsby and the innings closed on 154 all out with Price on 22 not out. Jackman 3-31, Kerrigan 2-24, Shearsby 2-38 and Maynard 2-40. One painful setback for Bourne was an injury to Wheeler who had to go to hospital for stitches to a cut hand whilst fielding.
