Wellesbourne Cricket Club CHL Saturday 1st XI v Leamington 3rds on Sat 07 May 2016 at 1.30pm
Wellesbourne Cricket Club Won

Match report Bourne made a good start to the new season with a comfortable eight-wicket win over Leamington 3rds at Loxley Close in a rain-affected game played on a day when John Allchurch, a stalwart supporter of the club, who sadly lost his life last October, was commemorated with a bench named in his honour.
With a new skipper, Dave Barnett, at the helm, his first task was to insert the opposition on winning the toss and although Bourne did not make an early breakthrough, opening bowlers Gary Maynard and Tom Shearsby frequently beat the bat and it was no surprise when Maynard had James Cowan smartly caught by Jamie Maynard at slip for 20 with the score on 31. Shearsby soon followed up eight runs later with his first wicket when M Reynolds was caught in the gully at the second attempt by Harry Jackman for 12. Wickets then tumbled at regular intervals with the visitors not adapting well to some good bowling and excellent fielding by the home side. First change bowler John Edden was soon amongst the wickets as he grabbed the next three in quick succession with T Mackrill caught by Jackman, J Williams held by Tommy Wheeler and Wayne Killian well taken low down to his left by keeper Barnett and Leamington were 57 for five. Things didn’t improve for the visitors when Tom Stephenson had S Whitfield caught by Gary Maynard for 15 and then removed A Puneet to a catch from Jonny Spence. Jackman had Leamington captain Matthew Dale caught on the boundary by Gary Maynard before Hollingsworth fell to a catch by Edden off Stephenson and finally Spence ran out Smedley and the innings closed 92 all out in the 31st over giving Bourne maximum bowling points. Stephenson finished with 3-7, Edden 3-12, Jackman 1-7, Maynard 1-24 and Shearsby 1-41. Bourne were soon up and running in their reply with eight coming off the first over before they lost two wickets to Dan McCarthy as first Gary Maynard was caught by Dale for 11 and Spence was snapped up by Williams. With the score on 42 for two off 10 overs a thunderstorm halted play for an hour and on resumption after calculations it transpired Bourne needed only five more to win and Barnett and Wheeler saw them home with both batsmen finishing on 13 not out. McCarthy with 2-12.
