Wellesbourne Cricket Club CHL Saturday 1st XI v Shipston on Stour on Sat 18 Jul 2015 at 1.30pm
Wellesbourne Cricket Club Won

Match report With both sides back to full strength following last weekend, it was Wellesbourne who took advantage gaining a comprehensive nine-wicket win over their local rivals and keeping alive their slim hopes of the title and ending Shipston’s chances with Bourne owing their victory to a fine display in the field with all-rounder Gary Maynard very much to the fore. Shipston won the toss and chose to bat first but they were soon struggling, losing both openers, with Chris Evans striking first, removing Spike Morris caught behind by John Edden and Gary Maynard followed up having Matt Corby caught at mid-wicket by Nick Gabbett and the visitors were nine for two. Young Harry Dube and Justin Saker carefully tried to remedy the situation taking the score to 38 before Tom Stephenson had Saker (13) caught by Edden, who again impressed behind the stumps, before three runs later, Jack Murphy went to a catch from Tom Shearsby off Gary Maynard. The experienced Gary Betteridge then joined Dube and just as they were building a good stand, Betteridge holed out to a catch at deep mid-wicket from Gary Maynard off Stephenson and Shipston were 61 for five. Marcus Ireland then joined Dube and following a 24-run stand Dube’s careful innings ended when Tommy Wheeler caught him off the bowling of Jamie Maynard for 26. Bourne were now well in control and Stephenson grabbed his third wicket having Ben Cox caught by Shearsby and Ireland’s innings of 26 ended with a catch by Travis Butcher off Jamie Maynard. Gary Maynard then returned to the attack and he clean bowled both Nick Hibberd and Phil Hall to give Bourne maximum bowling points as Shipston ended 120 all out. Gary Maynard 4-30, Stephenson 3-34, Jamie Maynard 2-28 and Evans 1-17. In reply, Bourne’s openers Gary Maynard and Tommy Wheeler were soon into their stride with both scoring boundaries in the first couple of overs. Maynard then began to dominate the bowling, taking 16 off one Ireland over, as he raced to his half-century and it was a surprise when Cox broke the stand, trapping Wheeler lbw for 19 with the score on 75. Gabbett then joined Maynard and they both continued to play some fine strokes and Bourne soon reach their target. Maynard finished on 78 not out and Gabbett 16 not out on another good pitch, emphasising the fine perfomance Bourne had produced in the field.
