Bidford on Avon v Wellesbourne Cricket Club CHL Saturday 1st XI on Sat 11 Jul 2015 at 1.30pm
Wellesbourne Cricket Club Lost

Match report With victory at a premium for both sides in their quest to continue to challenge for the Premier League title it was home side Bidford who prevailed by 43 runs with Bourne‘s total of 32 wides and Bidford skipper Richard Layton’s innings of 72, that swung the game firmly in the hosts’ favour as they completely avenged their 193-run defeat in the first game of the season. Bidford took first strike and it was soon obvious the pitch was to play a large part in the game with neither opener looking secure, as the variable bounce made batting a lottery, and T Edkins was first to go when Tom Shearsby had him caught behind by John Edden, in his first game as keeper, with the score on 23. S Rouse and L Lowerson then did well in taking the score to 85 before Harry Jackman bowled Lowerson for 21 and followed up by bowling Rouse for 39. T Hennigan was then stumped by Edden off Jamie Maynard and T Munyardzi was caught by Edden off Jackman and Bidford were struggling on 102 for five. However, Layton and P Dipple then produced a fine 68-run partnership with Layton, in particular, chancing his arm and it was the return to the attack of Chris Evans who removed Dipple to a catch from Dominic Dann for 17 and had K Downey lbw that pegged the run rate and Bidford were 170 for seven. Tommy Wheeler then bowled T Coles before Layton’s innings ended when he was bowled by Jackman, picking up his fourth wicket, and the innings closed on a respectable 219 for nine. Jackman with 4-58, Evans 2-25, Shearsby 1-18, Wheeler 1-33 and Maynard 1-38. Bourne also found it hard going with batting not getting any easier and Munyardzi struck early bowling Nick Gabbett with the total on nine. Wheeler and Edden then battled hard and slowly but surely built a partnership of 58 before Rouse bowled Edden for 20. Rouse then picked up the wicket of Dann with the score on 88. Maynard then joined Wheeler and they took the score to 105 before Maynard, trying to up the tempo, was caught in the deep by Rouse off Layton. Layton then picked up two more wickets having Craig Cook lbw and ended Wheeler’s steady innings of 51 having him caught and Bourne were 119 for six. Shearsby and Jackman tried to keep the innings going but on 133 both players went to Lowerson as first Jackman was caught by Layton and Shearsby was bowled for 16. Bourne were now behind the rate required and, after adding 23 for the ninth wicket, Evans was caught by Lowerson off Cooper. Travis Butcher (27 not out) and Tom Stephenson then played out the final few overs and Bourne ended 43 runs short. Layton 3-31, Rouse 2-49, Lowerson 2-37 and Munyardzi 1-26.
