Wellesbourne Cricket Club CHL Saturday 1st XI v Alcester & Ragley on Sat 16 May 2015 at 1.30pm
Wellesbourne Cricket Club Won

Match report Bourne completed a comfortable 195-run victory at Loxley Close over newly promoted Alcester & Ragley, who were left to rue dropping six catchable chances. After skipper Tom Stephenson won the toss Bourne decided to bat first to erase the gremlins of last week’s debacle at Shipston and openers Gary Maynard and Nick Gabbett started cautiously against some tight bowling. Gabbett was first to go for 15 when he was bowled by T Jackson with the score on 23 and this brought the in-form Dave Barnett to the crease and he and Maynard built a 52-run partnership until the latter was caught by Jackson off G Guy for 39 in the 20th over. Harry Jackman then joined Barnett at the crease and both batted positively as Bourne began to get on top as Alcester’s fielding and bowling began to wobble and it was a surprise when Jackman was caught by Steve Capron off D Pilkington for a good 40 with the total on 152. Barnett continued in fine form and with the assistance of Jamie Maynard these two took the game away from Alcester with some fine shots until Barnett’s innings ended on an excellent 79 when Guy held on to a superb catch at deep long on off the bowling of Capron. Maynard (63 not out) continued to score freely and with John Edden (11 not out) also chipping in, the hosts ended on a formidable 271 for four. In reply, Alcester found scoring difficult against good opening bowling and Chris Evans struck first when B Lee was bowled with the score on 20. Gary Maynard then had Pilkington caught behind by Barnett for 20 and three wickets fell on 44 as Maynard had L Clark caught by Jackman, Evans had S Howell stumped by Barnett and Maynard trapped Adam Peachey leg before and the innings was in disarray. Bourne continued to turn the screw and Maynard grabbed his fourth wicket when Capron was caught by Barnett and the visitors were 56 for 6 in the 20th over. Stephenson then mopped up the tail having Jackson caught by Edden, Jefferies held by Gabbett and finally, for his 300th wicket for Bourne, Guy was caught by Tom Shearsby and with a player short the innings ended on a paltry 76 all out. Maynard with 4-28, Stephenson 3-13 and Evans 2-20 doing the damage.
