Catherine de Barnes v Wellesbourne Cricket Club CHL Saturday 1st XI on Sat 26 Jul 2014 at 1.30pm
Wellesbourne Cricket Club Won

Match report An explosive 162-run opening stand in 15 overs from Gary Maynard and Nathan Edwards set Bourne on their way to an emphatic 104-run win at Catherine-de-Barnes on a glorious day. Having been asked to bat first the openers tore the Catney bowlers apart with Edwards, although giving a sharp chance off his first ball, hammering the bowling all over the ground and with Maynard also quick to punish anything loose 39 was posted off the first two overs. This run feast continued and the century partnership was completed off only 10 overs as they both continued playing with freedom. Edwards completed his fourth consecutive half century and his excellent innings of 97 included four sixes before he perished in the deep off Prince with the score on 162. Maynard was soon to follow in the same manner eight runs later for a good 56 leaving Matt Dutton and Jamie Maynard with the task of trying to keep up the standard that had been set. They both looked comfortable though and it was a surprise when Dutton was out caught behind off Hanlon for 20. Unfortunately, wickets then began to tumble with Dave Barnett being bowled by Prince, Maynard being well caught and bowled by Stibbon for 18 and Stibbon bowling Jackman for 16 and Bourne found themselves 252 for six. Tom Shearsby and John Edden tried to keep things moving but Stibbon grabbed his third wicket having Edden caught and Shearsby was caught off Knight and when Joe Jordan went bowled by Knight, Bourne were struggling to bat out their overs. However Neil Abbott (12 not out) and first team debutant James Blakemore saw them over the 300 mark without further loss. Stibbon with 3-23, Prince 3-64 and Knight 2-32 the pick of the Catney bowling. Faced with a formidable target of 303 Catney had a surprise off their first ball when Gary Maynard had Stibbon caught at slip by Jamie Maynard. Maynard then had Bryant caught at square leg by Jordan with the score on 23 and the home side’s approach after this was to obtain as many batting points as possible to help in their quest to remain in the Premier Division. They patiently took the score to 61 before Shearsby acrobatically caught and bowled Youngs for 12 and then Haywood joined opener Hanlon and these two took the score to 106 before Dutton clean bowled Haywood for 12. Hancox (12) then went caught behind by Barnett off Edwards, Knight (26) was caught by Gary Maynard off Dutton, Spence went bowled by Edwards and then Hanlon’s impressive innings ended for 56 when Edwards bowled him and Catney were 167 for eight and the end seemed in sight. However, Davies and Dixon set out to reach 200 before, in the final over, Dutton picked up both wickets in two balls, first having Dixon caught by Shearsby and finally Davies (26) caught by Jamie Maynard with three balls remaining and they finished 198 all out. Dutton finished with 4-37, Edwards 3-44, Gary Maynard 2-39 and Shearsby 1-23.
