Leamington 3rds v Wellesbourne Cricket Club CHL Saturday 1st XI on Sat 12 Jul 2014 at 1.30pm
Wellesbourne Cricket Club Won

Match report Wellesbourne comprehensively defeated Leamington 3rds at Arlington Avenue by 166 runs with an excellent team effort topped up by two fine individual performances from Nathan Edwards with the bat and Gary Maynard with the ball. Winning the toss, Bourne took first strike on a pitch of uneven bounce and were rewarded with a fine opening stand from Gary Maynard and Nathan Edwards in which Edwards was the dominant partner. Unveiling some excellent shots he raced to his 50 in quick time and continued to score freely with four sixes until the partnership ended on 90 in the 14th over when Maynard was bowled by Will Field for 18. Matt Dutton was then unlucky to be given out lbw to Matt Sellars and Edwards’ excellent innings ended on 81 when Field had him caught by Shahmir Khan and Bourne were 115 for three. Although the scoring rate dropped as Bourne tried to consolidate,Tom Havers was quick to punish the bad ball and he began to push the score along but wickets began to fall with Jamie Maynard the next to go caught at slip by Rob Ainscow off Sellars, who then bowled Harry Jackman, before Havers was caught by Field off Khan for 39 and Tom Shearsby was lbw to David Lord and Bourne found themselves 175 for seven. This brought John Edden and Chris Evans together and these two batted well taking the score to 206 before Edden was caught by Lord off Dan McCarthy for 11 who followed up trapping Tom Stephenson lbw. Evans and Joe Jordan took the final score to 228 before the innings closed with Evans finishing on 31 not out. Sellars 3-34, McCarthy 2-42 and Field 2-49 the pick of the bowlers. In their innings, Leamington were soon in trouble when opener James Cowan was run out off the third ball following a direct hit from Jamie Maynard and they soon lost two more wickets when Gary Maynard clean bowled both Billy Hallett and Ainscow and the hosts were seven for three. They never recovered from this start and Maynard continued to wreak havoc, bowling Dave Hawkes, trapping Lord lbw and having Khan well taken at point by Havers to complete a five-wicket haul and Leamington were reeling on 20 for six. Matthew Dale and Matt Davison tried to rally the innings but Stephenson then stepped in taking three wickets as Dale went to a good low catch by Jackman, Sellars was held at slip by Jamie Maynard and McCarthy was bowled. Jackman then snapped up the final wicket having Field caught by Shearsby and the hosts were bundled out for a paltry 62. Maynard finished with the fine figures of 5-36, Stephenson 3-6, Jackman 1-4 and Evans 0-7 from seven overs.
