Wellesbourne Cricket Club CHL Saturday 1st XI v Catherine de Barnes on Sat 17 May 2014 at 1.30pm
Wellesbourne Cricket Club Won

Match report An excellent 153-run opening partnership between Gary Maynard and Harry Jackman backed up by five wickets from Tom Stephenson and three from Jackman, to complete a fine all-round performance from him, enabled Bourne to record a resounding 183-run victory over new boys Catherine-de-Barnes. After winning the toss Bourne skipper Jamie Maynard opted to bat first and both openers were quickly off the mark and set about the bowling with relish. They both scored their runs at a quick pace and anything loose was soon dispatched keeping the run rate at six an over until Maynard was caught at deep long off by Lewis off the bowling of Blackburn going for his third maximum for a fine 75. This wicket did prompt a slowing of the scoring rate and C Mace had Jamie Maynard caught behind by Hanlon and Jackman’s knock ended when he was trapped in front by Mace for an excellent 86 and Bourne were 186 for three. However the fourth-wicket partnership of Nathan Edwards and Mick Alexander continued the good work taking the score to 237 and it was a surprise when both players got out. First, Alexander was caught by Price off A Hancox for 34 and Edwards followed for the same score six runs later when Davies caught him in the gully off D Stibson. Stibson then grabbed a second wicket having John Smith caught by Price before Darren Mole (26 not out) and Chris Evans 14 not out both played well in taking the total to 291 for six off their 45 overs. Mace 2-42, Stibson 2-49, Blackburn 1-64 and Hancox 1-64 taking the wickets. It was imperative Catney made a solid start in their reply but Hanlon was run out in the first over taking a risky run to Edwards and when Gary Maynard bowled D Price the visitors were 18 for two in the fourth over. However, Stibson and Hancox began to play some big shots and these two took the score to 90 before an amazing collapse of eight wickets for 18 runs. After a stand of 72, Stibson was bowled by Jackman for a good 59 and in the next over Stephenson removed Hancox lbw for 11 and the innings disintegrated. Jackman bowled D Hayward, Stephenson had S Finnegan caught by Edwards and Jackman had his third wicket clean bowling Mace. It was then left to Stephenson to polish off the tail with an hat-trick having Lewis stumped by Mole off the last ball of one over and then taking the first two in his next with Davies being caught by Jackman and trapping S Ballinger lbw and Catney were all out for 108 in the 31st over. Stephenson finished with excellent figures of 5-32, Jackman 3-21 and Maynard 1-19.
