Long Itchington v Wellesbourne Cricket Club CHL Saturday 1st XI on Sat 24 Aug 2013 at 13:30
Wellesbourne Cricket Club Won

Match report A magnificent, fighting 75 not out from Tom Shearsby set up a dramatic finish as No. 11 Yorshireman Joe Jordan scrambled a single off the final ball of the game to give Bourne a tense one-wicket win at Long Itchington. Itchington won the toss and batted first on a grey, cold afternoon and Roger Eadon and Tom Crosthwaite soon took the score to 30 before Tom Shearsby had Crosthwaite (12) stumped by Dave Barnett and 12 runs later Gary Maynard had Eadon caught behind by Barnett for 17. Number three Matt Cox was joined by Tom Perks and Cox, taking a shine to the quicker bowlers, accelerated to 27 before the spin of Harry Jackman clean bowled him. Perks was next to go with another stumping by Barnett off Jackman, who then had Mitch Lowe caught and bowled and the home side were 117 for five. Another caught and bowled by Jackman saw the end of Nick Brooks for 18 before a spirited stand of 39 by James Clarke and Alex Jack took the score to 165 before Tom Stephenson bowled Clarke for 12. Stephenson then grabbed two more wickets in as many balls as he bowled Steve Chapman and had Andy Wood caught by Tommy Wheeler. Darren Mole then took the last wicket having Andrew Smith caught and bowled leaving Jack 32 not out and Itchington closed on 190 all out in the 44th over, crucially leaving one over extra for Bourne to bat. Jackman finished with 4-31, Stephenson 3-23, Mole1-0, Shearsby 1-35 and Maynard 1-37. In reply Bourne lost Gary Maynard lbw to Jack with only three on the board before Wheeler and Jamie Maynard batted sensibly and seemed to be taking the game out of Itchington’s reach before Wheeler was caught behind by Clarke off A Smith for 26 and then one run later Maynard fell the same way to the bowling of Cox for a good 46. Bourne soon found themselves in more trouble as Jackman was bowled by Smith and Cox clean bowled Nathan Edwards and they were facing an uphill struggle at 82 for five. Shearsby was then joined by Barnett and these two steadied the situation taking the total along to 115 before Barnett was caught and bowled by Brooks. Shearsby was beginning to look in fine form and with the help of Mole they added 41 runs with some excellent running between the wickets before Mole lost patience and was stumped by Clarke off Chapman with the score on 156. Shearsby continued to be the main man and the boundaries began to come and although he lost Chris Evans caught by Brooks off Cox, he kept up the run rate until the extra over left Bourne with four to win. Stephenson was then caught by Brooks off Cox and with three balls remaining four runs were still required. Shearsby managed to bring the scores level leaving Jordan to face his only ball and he duly completed the task to end a marvellous game of cricket with full credit to both sides. Cox with 4-40 and Smith 2-33 being the pick of the bowlers.
