Exhall & Wixford v Wellesbourne Cricket Club CHL Saturday 1st XI on Sat 10 Aug 2013 at 13:30
Wellesbourne Cricket Club Lost

Match report Bourne’s slim hopes of keeping in touch with leaders Earlswood disappeared completely at Exhall when the home side completed a comfortable eight-wicket success due to an excellent unbroken 173-run stand for the third wicket by Matt Gwynne and Leon Gates. With Bourne batting first, Gary Maynard was soon continuing his good recent form playing some fine shots but lost fellow opener Tommy Wheeler when Steve Kerby bowled him with the score on 31. Leon Gates then entered the attack and with his subtle variations he struck three vital blows. First to go was Jamie Maynard caught at slip by Tom Simpson, then Gary Maynard, after scoring 42 of the first 45 runs, was bowled and Gates then trapped Nathan Edwards lbw and Bourne were 58 for four. However this brought Harry Jackman and Tom Shearsby together and these two combined to produce an excellent partnership. Both players played carefully and were quick to punish any bad balls and soon got the scoreboard ticking along and they took their stand to 104 before, with the overs beginning to run out, Shearsby was stumped by Josh Smith off Richard Nicholls for a good 43. Kerby then returned to the attack and took two vital wickets when Dave Barnett was caught behind by Smith for 10 and Jackman’s fine innnings of 51 ended when he was bowled and Bourne found themselves 190 for seven. Darren Mole and Chris Evans then took the score to 202 before Evans was run out off the last ball of the 45th over. Kerby 3-25, Gates 3-27 and Nicholls 1-44 taking the wickets. With Bourne having taken more bowling points than any other side in the division hopes were high and when Gary Maynard trapped Kerby in front in his first over and Evans bowled Smith, Exhall were suddenly 30 for two and the visitors were sensing another victory. Gates then came in to join Gwynne at the crease and these two batted very sensibly and were soon compiling their match winning partnership. Although Bourne kept pegging away the two experienced batsmen timed their run chase perfectly and they achieved their target in the 43rd over. Gwynne finishing with a superb 93 not out and Gates 77 not out. Evans 1-25 and Maynard 1-46 being the wicket takers and Bourne have now slipped to fourth in the table.
