Wellesbourne Cricket Club CHL Saturday 1st XI v Bretforton on Sat 20 Jul 2013 at 13:30
Wellesbourne Cricket Club Won

Match report An excellent bowling performance, backed up by eight catches, combined to give Wellesbourne a comprehensive victory over Bretforton and maintained their pursuit of leaders Earlswood. Bretforton won the toss and deciding to bat first were left to rue that decision in the first over as Tom Shearsby had Brett Woods well caught at first slip by Jamie Maynard. With Shearsby and Gary Maynard giving nothing away, Shearsby then followed up when Dave Barnett took a splendid catch behind to dismiss Adrian Witts and when Maynard had Phil Davis caught at point by Tom Stephenson the score had reached nine for three in the tenth over. Paul Jones then hit three boundaries and looked in good form until Shearsby grabbed two more wickets in successive balls when he trapped Jones lbw for 17 and had Joe Cafaero caught by Harry Jackman and Bret were in deep trouble at 28 for five. There was no let up for Bret as change bowlers Joe Jordan and Harry Jackman kept up the pressure and Henry Dodd was next to go when Jackman had him caught by debutant John Edden and Ashley Icke (10) followed as Jordan bowled him. Jordan grabbed his second wicket having Alex Evans caught at slip by Tommy Wheeler and Jackman followed suit as Gary Maynard caught D Key and Bret were 56 for nine. The last wicket pair of S Clarke and A Clarke had a couple of escapes in taking the score to 73 before S Clarke fell for 15 to a good running catch on the long on boundary by Gary Maynard off Stephenson and the innings closed in the 29th over. Shearsby finished with 4-26, Jordan 2-7, Jackman 2-21, Maynard 1-16 and Stephenson 1-2. Faced with a meagre total Bourne had a shock in the first over when Wheeler was bowled by Witts. Gary Maynard and Jamie Maynard then took the score to 24 before the former, trying to clear the pavilion, was bowled by Witts for 15. However there were no more alarms as Jamie Maynard (23 not out) was joined by Nathan Edwards who hit a quickfire 38 not out and these two saw Bourne home in the 15th over. Witts finished with 2-32.
