Wellesbourne Cricket Club CHL Saturday 1st XI v Elmley Castle on Sat 06 Jul 2013 at 13:30
Wellesbourne Cricket Club Won

Match report A superb maiden Premier League century from Nathan Edwards, 92 from Gary Maynard and a five-wicket haul from Tom Stephenson combined to give Wellesbourne a very comfortable win by 179 runs over Elmley Castle and moves them into second place in the Premier Division. As the sun shone winning the toss was going to be vital and Bourne did just that and made an excellent start with openers Gary Maynard and Tommy Wheeler looking in good form, being quick to punish any loose deliveries as they compiled a century partnership. Maynard continued his good form of recent weeks passing his sixth half century in seven games and it was unfortunate when, with the total on 112, Wheeler had a rush of blood and was stumped by G Howman off S Cooper for 32. Jamie Maynard was next in and after two quick boundaries he was bowled by J Cawson for 11 and when Gary Maynard‘s innings ended being caught on the boundary by A Hemming off Cooper for a excellent 92, Bourne were 144 for three. This brought together Edwards and Dave Barnett and another partnership began which took the game well out of Elmley’s reach. Edwards was soon into his stride and he played some fine shots in compiling a richly deserved century and, with the Elmley attack wilting in the heat, he and Barnett took the score to 262 before the latter was bowled by S Corbett for 25. Tom Shearsby entered the fray and the momentum continued as both players continued the onslaught with Bourne finally reaching 309 for four and Elmley being very grateful that the innings was closed. Edwards finishing on a superb 114 not out and Shearsby 24 not out. Cooper 2-61, Corbett 1-49 and Cawson 1-56 taking the wickets. When Elmley batted Bourne picked up two early wickets as Gary Maynard clean bowled G Howman and had A Hemming (12) caught behind by Barnett and the visitors were 32 for two. A couple of catches were then missed off Maynard and Chris Evans as R Eaton and N Cooper rode their luck but these two kept up the run rate and took the score to 82 before the introduction of spinner Harry Jackman claimed both their wickets. First he had Eaton caught by Stephenson for 22 and then lured Cooper (23) forward and Barnett completed the stumping. These two dismissals ended any faint hope Elmley had and skipper Stephenson then stepped in and more wickets began to tumble. Cawson was caught by Gary Maynard off Stephenson with the score on 113 and then three wickets fell on 120 as Jackman grabbed his third victim when Shearsby caught S Cooper, Stephenson picked up Corbett’s wicket for 20 with another Shearsby catch and had W Bailey caught at slip by Jamie Maynard. Stephenson then completed his nap hand having Sheward caught by Evans and finally trapped P Cross lbw and the innings ended on 130 all out. Stephenson finishing with fine figures of 5-15, Jackman 3-37 and Maynard 2-39.
