Elmley Castle v Wellesbourne Cricket Club CHL Saturday 1st XI on Sat 29 Jun 2013 at 13:30
Wellesbourne Cricket Club Won

Match report Wellesbourne won their fourth game in a row with a four-wicket win at Elmley Castle and with the season now at the halfway stage they have closed the gap on leaders Earlswood to 18 points following Earls’ defeat against Exhall & Wixford. After being put in to bat Elmley found it difficult against the opening attack of Chris Evans and Gary Maynard and it was Maynard who struck the first blow when he had C Sheward (13) caught at second slip by Tom Stephenson with the score on 18. Maynard then picked up two more wickets when he clean bowled both A Hemming and S Corbett (13) and Elmley were 44 for three. One run later Tom Shearsby took the fourth wicket having S Cooper caught at first slip by Jamie Maynard and Bourne continued to make inroads into the Elmley batting when Maynard picked up his fourth wicket having N Cooper caught and bowled and the home side were 51 for five. Shearsby then removed P Cross to a catch by Tommy Wheeler and when Stephenson had J Bailey caught behind by Dave Barnett, the Elmley innings was in disarray at 59 for seven. However for the third week running Bourne could not finish off the innings and found resistance from M Brown and W Bailey and these two took the score to 92 before Shearsby grabbed his third wicket having Bailey caught by Jamie Maynard for 23. Brown (16) was then trapped lbw to Nathan Edwards and at 105 for nine the end seemed in sight but a stubborn 39-run partnership between T Graham (22 not out) and O Ballard was finally ended when Ballard was run out by Joe Jordan and Elmley closed on 144 all out. Gary Maynard finished with 4-26, Shearsby 3-26, Edwards 1-14 and Stephenson 1-20. In reply Bourne’s openers Gary Maynard and Wheeler made a decent start until Maynard fell for 18 to a catch by Ballard off N Cooper with the total on 29. Jamie Maynard joined Wheeler at the crease and these two took the score to 76 before Wheeler was caught by Graham off Brown for 36 and with Bourne looking to gain bonus points when Harry Jackman and Maynard took the score past 100 they were well on course. However, Jackman was then trapped in front by S Cooper and although Maynard continued to score freely he lost two more partners when first Matt Dutton was caught at slip and Edwards, after hitting two boundaries, went the same way, both to Graham and Bourne were 137 for five. Shearsby came in but with two runs required to win Maynard was dismissed when S Cooper bowled him for a good 48 and it was left to Barnett to hit the winning runs. S Cooper 2-10, T Graham 2-31, N Cooper 1-28 and M Brown 1-34 taking the wickets.
