Wellesbourne Cricket Club CHL Saturday 1st XI v Long Itchington on Sat 15 Jun 2013 at 13:30
Wellesbourne Cricket Club Won

Match report Wellesbourne’s first-ever meeting with Long Itchington ended in a 28-run success and pushed them into third place in the Premier Division. After being put in to bat Bourne made another excellent start with Gary Maynard and Tommy Wheeler soon into their stride and both were quick to punish any loose deliveries. Maynard, in particular, continued his fine form of recent weeks with some lovely shots and when he was dismissed in the 14th over with the score on 73, caught by Mitch Lowe off A Coop, he had recorded his fourth consecutive half-century, finishing on 53. Wheeler was then joined by Jamie Maynard and these two continued to bat with freedom and both players were playing well and took their partnership to 49 before Wheeler was caught by Jones off A Smith for 39. Incoming batsman Harry Jackman soon settled in and again another solid partnership was built as Jamie Maynard moved to his half century with a six. Shortly afterwards with the total on 176, Maynard was dismissed, caught on the mid-wicket boundary by A Smith off M Clark for an excellent 55. Jackman followed soon after adjudged lbw to Clark for 31 and the same bowler had Dave Barnett caught and Bourne were 202 for six. Matt Dutton and Tom Shearsby kept the run rate going, until Lowe trapped Dutton lbw for 13 and Shearsby’s nice little cameo ended when Lowe had him caught for 23. Darren Mole and Chris Evans took the final score to 233 off their 45 overs without further loss. Clark 3-54 and Lowe 2-30 being the pick of the bowlers. In reply, requiring just over five an over, Itchington found Bourne‘s opening attack of Evans and Gary Maynard difficult to get away as both bowled with a lot of pace and aggression and Evans removed Jones to a sharp slip catch by Jamie Maynard with the score on 13 and after 15 overs they had only reached 28. Tom Stephenson then snapped up the wicket of A Jack (13), stumped by Barnett, and after 20 overs Itchington were 56 for two. Opener R Eaden was joined by T Perks and carefully took the score to 82 before Eaden went to the same Barnett/Stephenson combination for 44. The next wicket to fall was that of danger man Lowe who played on to his stumps from a good delivery from Dutton and soon after the away side were 128 for five when Jackman caught and bowled Perks for 31. This brought together J Clarke and M Brooks and although these two played very well they were always behind the required rate and the innings ended 28 runs short on 205 for five. Stephenson finished with 2-55, Dutton 1-23, Jackman 1-28 and Evans 1-38.
