Bretforton v Wellesbourne Cricket Club CHL Saturday 1st XI on Sat 11 May 2013 at 13:30
Wellesbourne Cricket Club Lost

Match report After winning the toss and putting Bourne into bat first, Bretforton skipper Adrian Witts gave his side the perfect start when Gary Maynard was superbly caught and bowled first ball and the visitors were immediately on the back foot. Fellow opener Tommy Wheeler and Jamie Maynard tried to rally the innings until D Key had Maynard caught behind by H Dodd and Key then removed Nathan Edwards to a catch by Joe Cafaero and bowled Dave Barnett and the innings was in disarray at 24 for four. However Wheeler, who was batting very well, was joined by Harry Jackman and these two showed the right application mixing good running between the wickets with some boundaries and the score had reached 75 before Wheeler was adjudged lbw off Paul Jones for a fine 43. Eight runs later, Alex Evans bowled Darren Mole and Jackman was joined by the experienced Phil Rothwell and again another good partnership developed. Jackman, for the second week running, was playing some fine shots and with Rothwell also looking comfortable it was a blow when Witts returned to the attack and bowled Jackman with his first ball for an excellent 51 with the score on 136. One run later Rothwell (17) was lbw to Witts and although Chris Evans (12 not out) tried to keep the score moving, Joe Cafaero took the final two wickets when he bowled Tom Stephenson and trapped Joe Jordan in front off the last ball of the 45th over and Bourne were all out for 154. Key returned 3-16, Witts 3-22, Cafaero 2-26, Evans 1-28 and Jones 1-44. With rain having interrupted the Bourne innings, Bretforton were set a revised target of 120 to win off 35 overs, which was then reduced to 100 off 29 overs following another rain break. They made a decent start with Ashley Icke looking in good form until Evans bowled fellow opener Dodd with the score on 17. Witts was next to fall when Jamie Maynard caught him at first slip off Jordan and the same bowler then removed Icke for 31 with a steepling catch by Wheeler. Bourne kept plugging away and when Phil Davis was caught by Gary Maynard off Edwards a brief glimmer of hope was raised but Jones (17 not out) and Cafaero (22 not out) saw Bret home to a comfortable win off 21.3 overs. Jordan finished with 2-23, Edwards 1-3 and Evans 1-24.
